Bangladesh court asks gov’t why it failed to protect Buddhists from attacks over Quran photo

DHAKA, Bangladesh — Bangladesh’s High Court asked the government on Wednesday to explain why local officials failed to provide security to minority Buddhists whose homes, temples and businesses were attacked over a picture of a burned Quran posted on Facebook.

A two-judge panel asked top bureaucrats of the Home Ministry and local administrators to reply within a week and ordered authorities to ensure safety in troubled areas of southern Bangladesh.

    DHAKA, Oct 2, (Agencies): Bangladesh police said Tuesday they had arrested nearly 300 people after Muslim mobs attacked temples and houses in what Buddhist leaders described as the worst violence against the community since independence.
    A total of 162 people were arrested in Cox’s Bazaar, which bore the brunt of the attacks on Saturday and Sunday nights, according to Khorshed Alam, a senior police officer in the southeastern district.

Burning of the eleven Buddhist temples, two of which were 300 years old and then the so-called muslims by name, after looting the shops and houses of the poor Buddist minority, the rioters burnt the shops/houses, the owners of which could save their lives only with the cloth they had on their body at the moment of mob attacks.
    Such shameful,inhuman acts would not have committed/repeated if the local administration, the police and the judiciary had done their primary duty of protecting the life and property of the minorities, especially the Shia and Ahmadiyya Muslim communities. Let us see how the rights of the people are protected and justice is done to all in Bangla Desh,and let the system of live and let live all together with none to delink of the mutual communication system. All well that ends well, as an old Arabic saying goes like this. All the good people of Bangls Desh discharge their duty towards the neighbours and all do their best to rehabilitate the uprooted Buddhists by rebuilding there houses and shops and supply them bread and butter regularly and Medical camps in shifts be arranged for the poor minorities. and
