GUJRAT: In what appears to be a targeted attack, a man belonging to the Ahmadiyya community was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Sufipura locality near Eidgah Road in Mandi Bahauddin city late on Wednesday night.

Kamran Safdar of Mandi Bahauddin city, in the FIR lodged with the city police, said his father, Safdar Mahmood, who ran a workshop, visited a local hospital to inquire after his mother-in-law.

Kamran said that he received a phone call from a workshop employee, who informed him that his father had been shot by some unidentified attackers and was lying on the road.

The complainant said that when he reached the spot, his father had already succumbed to his bullet wounds.

He added that as his family had no enmity with anyone in the area, the killing seemed to be motivated by religious hatred and aimed to cause fear among the Ahmadiyya community.

On being informed of the incident, police teams also reached the spot and shifted the body to the DHQ hospital, where doctors conducted an autopsy. The body was later handed over to the victim’s family.

The police have registered a case against the unidentified killers under sections 302 and 34 of PPC and Section 7 of the Anti Terrorism Act (ATA), and started investigation.
