SAMABULA (SUVA)- FIJI – I was blown away when I saw manuscript of the first Fijian translation nicely typed and kept at the Ahmadiyya Islamic library here when I volunteered at the library in late 70s.
During my breaks and holidays from Police Department, I used work with the then Amir and Missionary in Charge Maulana Sadiq Amirstari, articulate in English, a poet, a writer and a fine human being. We used to translate and Urdu leaflets and get them printed in English at a local press.
During the course of this work, Maulana Sadiq (MA) showed me translation and profusely praised and prayed for the painstaking efforts of his predecessor the pioneer Pakistani Ahmadi Muslim missionary to Fiji, Maulana Sheikh Abdul Wahid (Fazil).
This was priceless jewel I thought. The Amir said the printing was pending proof reading. The late Maulana Abdul Wahid Sheikh (Fazil) in the early 60s had acquired the services of a retired Fijian teacher to accomplish the translation work excerpts of which he used to publish in a monthly Jamaat newsletter.
When Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IV Mirza Tahir Ahmad (ra) made his maiden visit to Fiji in the early 80s he appointed my mentor Master Mohammad Hussain and another Ahmadi brother for the proof reading and printing of the first Fijian Koran.
The Fijian Koran is now available in our standard hardcover. Our thanks and praises to Allah, The Gracious, The Merciful and His blessings be on late Maulana Sheikh Abdul Wahid (Fazil) the first Pakistani Ahmadi Muslim missionary to serve in Fiji.

It is heartening to note that Maulana Abdul Wahid, my uncle (fathers older brother) did something we never knew about, but can be immensely proud of.
He was posted to Fiji in the early 60’s.
amazing ,am so proud of my taya jan ,he was a very private and quiet man who never boasted of his achievements ,may allah bless his soul and keep his grandchildren safe
From what I recall of what the late Maulana Sheikh Abdul Wahid Fazil used to tell us, his first posting was to Iran. One of the things he told us was that while there he noticed some of the Shiite Muslims carried a small brick to place their forehead when in prostration.
The Maulana sahib was a tireless worker and had a magnetic charm that attracted people to him. He was sent to Fiji mission by Hazrat Khalifatul Masih II (ra) with a young man (than) Matiullah Dard now Dr. Matiullah Dard who was college English teacher.
There’s much mention of the late Maulana sahib in Dr. Dard’s “An Autobiography of an Ahmadi Muslim” that carries my intro.
Did you know that Maulana sahib played a role in fulfilling the grand prophecy of Hazrat Promised Messiah (as) ” I will cause thy message to reach the corners of earth.” Fiji lies at the very end of the South Pacific where the famous International Date Line runs through.
There’s much to written and said about the late Maulana sahib. Inshah Allah, when I get a chance, I will recap some of it.
As long as I remember,my Taya jan Sheikh Abdul Wahid had a great smile. We as the grand children of Sheikh Abdul Haq my Dada Jan are so fortunate to be born in his family of very dedicated ahmadis. I pray for our children to follow the foot steps of their grand uncle and grand father, my dear Abbu jan in carrying the torch of Ahmadiyyat and spread the Blessings of Ahmadiyyat to the corners of the Earth.ameen.
May God Almighty protect his grand children being persecuted in Pakistan, ameen.
