‘Peace bodies being set up for interfaith harmony’ Pakistani Minister of State for National Harmony

SLAMABAD – In a bid to promote interfaith harmony in Pakistan, Minister of State for National Harmony, Akram Masih Gill, said on Wednesday that formation of national peace committees for interfaith harmony was under way.
While talking to a delegation of Ulema headed by Allama Muhammad Shoaib, Chairman International Scholars Council, which called on him here on Wednesday, the Minister stressed on the need for interfaith harmony and understanding between the different religion.
“All religions of the world teach love, peace, tolerance and brotherhood. Let us join hands to promote the culture of tolerance and respect for each other’s faith in Pakistan,” Akram Massih said adding that country was in dire need of bringing the leaders of different religion on the table to promote peace and harmony.
Taking about the procedure of formation of National peace committee, Minister said the he himself chair the committee interfaith harmony committee. Other official members would be Secretary, Ministry of National Harmony and Secretary, Ministry of Interior and Secretary Capital Administration and Development. It would consist on 24 unofficial members, out of which half of them would be non-Muslim.
The committee members would elect its secretary general. He said that some people have formed different peace committees with reference to different ministries and the government would take action against these illegal committees also.
