Libya’s exiled former intelligence chief knows the identity of PC Yvonne Fletcher’s killer and was probably involved in her murder, the country’s transitional prime minister said.
Abdurrahim El-Keib said he was convinced that Abdul Senussi, who has fled to Mauritania, could name the person who shot Pc Fletcher during a siege outside the Libyan embassy in London in 1984. After laying a wreath of white roses and carnations at a memorial commemorating her death, Mr Keib said in an interview with the Guardian that Mr Senussi was the “black box” to solving the case. He said Senussi was “directly or indirectly involved in most if not all of the crimes” of the Gaddafi regime. “That doesn’t mean others weren’t involved. But he definitely knows who they were,” he said.
Mr Keib met Pc Fletcher’s mother Pam yesterday. It is understood that he repeated the message he delivered to David Cameron the day before that Libya would “work very closely to resolve anything related to that issue”.
