According to Nick Kristof, nuns rock! I couldn’t agree with him more. When Pope Benedict XIV made his ill-advised remarks against Islam a few years ago, I received an email from my friend, Sister Rosemary, apologizing for his rude comments. In my opinion, nuns are a testament to the statement of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that ‘Modesty is thoroughly good.” Modesty in attire infuses dignity and decency into one’s conduct, and this proves to be the process whereby one’s character is refined and strengthened over time. All Muslim women, who embrace the veil freely and without reservations, experience that it endows them with courage and high self-esteem. When they step out into the world, it’s as if they are confidently proclaiming, “My charms are for my domestic life. As far as the outside world is concerned, consider me a nun!”
You can read about the power of modesty at work in Nick Kristof’s We Are All Nuns.

Indeed! A very intellectual, beautiful and true message! Especially the part how your selfesteem is positively built up.
When ever Mary- Mother of Jesus is shown in a painting, picture or statue, she is shown to be wearing the veil. If she is the symbol of the most revered woman, then shouldn’t she be the one we all look up to? She appears modest in every depiction.
The job of every spiritual leader should be to call people towards all that is good.
When I wear a Hijab and loose outer coat even if it resembles a nun’s attire, I dramatically elevate my status from an ordinary women. I dont need to attract degrading looks from men who are perverts or sick minded, eager to prey on women.
On the flip side those of high character hold the door of the shop or Mall open for me and give me a friendly nod and a respectful smile.
I feel my dignity and integrity are protected by my modesty, in much the same manner as a gem is protected when it is wrapped up.
