Tasikmalaya. Local police are looking for suspects in video footage of last week’s mob attack on an Ahmadiyah mosque in West Java, an officer said on Monday.
“We’re still analyzing recording,” Tasikmalaya police chief Sr. Adj. Comr. Irman Sugema said.
A mob of 150 people stormed the mosque in Cipeuyeum, West Java on Friday. The mob broke windows, smashed furniture and firebombed part of the building while police officers watched.
Officers claimed that they couldn’t do anything to stop the crowd.
But after the attack, police collected evidence, including stones and bottles that may help identify suspects, Irman said.
“We hope the perpetrators [are] revealed,” he said.
As the police investigate the attack, Irman urged West Java’s Ahmadiyahs to settle any disputes with the residents of Cipeuyeum.
“They should solve the problem in a cooperative manner, or avoid provoking [people], so the investigators could concentrate better,” Irman said. Read more
