AMMAN — The Kingdom’s hotels on Wednesday decided to stop receiving Libyan guests due to the outstanding debt of over JD90 million the Libyan government owes the hotels.
In a circular issued by the Jordan Hotels Association (JHA) Wednesday, a copy of which was made available to The Jordan Times, hotels were asked to inform their Libyan guests to evict their rooms by Sunday unless they can pay in cash for their accommodation.
The decision was confirmed by JHA’s Executive Director Yasar Majali, who said that the hotels will stop next week offering accommodation to Libyans, the majority of whom are in Jordan for medical treatment.
In a press conference last week, the syndicate’s president, Michael Nazzal, said some of the country’s hotels would not be able to operate if Libyan authorities did not accelerate the process of paying their bills.
Currently, there are 12,000 Libyans staying in the country’s hotels, Nazzal said at the time.
Meanwhile, Private Hospitals Association (PHA) President Awni Bashir said that he had been informed that the Libyan committees in Jordan, including the Libyan Medical Committee, had been dissolved.
The dissolution of these committees might cause further delays in paying the Libyan government’s debt to the Kingdom’s hospitals, he added.
The medical bills for more than 50,000 Libyans treated in the Kingdom’s hospitals total JD120 million, of which Libya has only paid JD20 million, according to the PHA.

قلت لک مفیش فلوس
(Told you there aint no money)
And I thought that kind of problems were due to Qaddafi. Now I think it may be due to a lack of organization. Otherwise there’s no way the Libyans can run out of money! Not this quick anyway.
I do hope they start organizing their affairs.
In any case I am sure the Libyans will pay. They are honest folks.
agree, it is just a matter of organization…
and substantial payment already made:
