A US drone strike has killed at least 15 civilians and injured dozens of others in the southern region of war-torn Somalia, Press TV reports.

The unmanned plane has left at least 15 people dead, while injuring at least 43 in the southern town of Bilis Qooqani near Afmadow.

This recent strike follows a similar strike in the same region on Friday, which killed at least 70 people.

Somalia is the sixth country where the United States military has used remote-controlled drone aircrafts to launch targeted operations and killings.

The airstrikes continue as the African nation continues to struggle with its famine and water-borne diseases, killing tens of thousands of children over the past months.

The US military has also used drones in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, Iraq, and Yemen.

Somalia has not had a functioning government since 1991, when warlords overthrew former dictator Mohamed Siad Barre.

Strategically located in the Horn of Africa, Somalia remains one of the countries generating the highest number of refugees and internally displaced persons in the world.

US terror drones kills 31 in southern Somalia

At least 31 people have been killed in the latest attack by two US assassination drones near Somalia’s southern town of Afmadow, Press TV reports.

Abdishakur Ahmed Madoobe, a Somali military official, confirmed the attack, adding that the aerial strike took place on Monday.

Somalia is the sixth country, where the United States has used assassination drones to launch missile strikes. The US military has also used drones in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, Iraq, and Yemen.

Washington claims the airstrikes target militants, though civilians constitute the majority of the victims of such attacks.

The UN has slammed the American terror drone attacks as targeted killing and says they pose a challenge to international law.

  1. Somalia is a major source of pirates who kidnap & kill innocent civilians for ransom money.
Somali is a criminal government who ignore its own citizens. International food & monetary aid does not reach the deserving population . It goes to corrupt government officials & warlords.
It is Somali soursces who claim that civilins are killed. Why would US spend millions of dollars to kill only civilians?
