Former President General (rtd.) Pervez Musharraf supported Pakistan to review relationship with Israel, saying this will benefit Pakistan.
Musharraf, talking to an Israel-based newspaper in an interview, noted, “Israel is a fait accompli and a lot of the Muslim world have understood that and I know many Muslim countries have relations with Israel, whether above board or covertly. So this is the change in reality I am talking about.”
He furthermore stressed his country is an ideological state like Israel, adding, ‘That is the foundation of our creation. We are an Islamic republic.’
“Which goes toward explaining why Pakistani Muslims are much more sensitive about Islam than most other Muslim countries. We are extremely sensitive about desecration of the Koran. So we are wholly sensitive to the Palestinian plight and any new initiative regarding Israel has to be proposed very delicately.”
When asked about his offer to mediate solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Musharraf contended that it was at the root many of today’s bigger problems.
Obviously an attempt to ‘get into the good books of the USA’ – without which he seems to think he would not have any chance to return to power in Pakistan…
Musharraf was saying all these things when he was in power, his foreign minister Mr. Qasuri even met the Israli foreign minister in turkey, Americans and all their allies were happy and yet USA did not help him stay in power.
From the very beginning he is pro Israeli, Israeli president once said he does not go to bed for sleep until he prays for President Musharf. During his president ship of Pakistan and as dictator he was unable to response the International politics properly. Every other nations’s leader was in habit to twist his ears one by one to get their own interests out of Pakistani Government. even Karzai was so encouragious at Musharaf to press him very easyly.
If Turkey,Egypt,Morroco and some other Muslim Countries have Diplomatic Relations,Why not Pakistan.If we have Good Relations with Fathers of Israel (USA, Russia,Britian & EU) why not with their Lovely Child (Israel).Time is come for Pakistan to Review & Draw the New Map of Foreign Policy in Context of Stratagic Importance,according to the Wishes of the People of Pakistan
Somehow his insight is right but Pakistan is to take care of much more critical issues and far most its own survival both economical and social.
