We recently conducted an interfaith event called Children of Abraham with Imam Limame of the Outaouais Islamic Centre.
In attendance were members of our three congregations including the Gatineau Mosque. Since that time inter-faith activity, appreciation and understanding has continued to grow between our three faith communities.
We were especially saddened to read of the vandalism that has been taking place at the Gatineau Mosque. As members of the Jewish and Christian communities we are not strangers to vandalism and attacks on our facilities. We have personal experience of such events – they are distressing and disturbing. However, such attacks can also have the effect of strengthening a religious community and deepening its faith. We hope that our friends at the Outaouais Islamic Centre will be strengthened by coming together and affirming their values – values that stand in contrast to the despicable acts that have been perpetrated against them.
