Ban on male staff at Saudi lingerie stores takes effect

Jeddah: From Thursday, only female staff will be able to sell women’s lingerie in Saudi Arabia, ending decades of awkwardness in the conservative kingdom where women are expected to don black cloaks at all times out of the home.

“I and many other women like me were always embarrassed to walk into lingerie shops because men were selling the goods,” Saudi shopper Samar Mohammad said. She said that in the past, she often bought the wrong underwear “because I was sensitive about explaining what I wanted to a man.”

  1. As the women cannot drive in Saudi Arabia all ladies should go to work. The men need not only drive their wives (all 4 of them) to different places of work but equally their children to and from school. When should these husbands have time for a job? Luckily the unemployment ‘salaries’ have become more available now… (I am being sarcastic, in case someone did not notice).
