BEIJING – While South Koreans are elated over the death of dictator Kim Jong-il, for security analysts who have to consider many different factors in assessing the geopolitical risks of the absence of the Dear Leader, his death came “a bit early”.
The region’s instability has increased as North Korea will be now under the helm of an inexperienced young leader who doesn’t have a proven track record of running a country, youngest son Kim Jong-eun.
Kim Jong-il’s death at the age of 69 was announced by state media on early Monday, with a tearful black-clad news reader saying the leader had suffered a severe heart attack as a result of exhaustion.
