5 Things You Didn’t Know About Body Language

Here’s what you might not know:

1) Men can tell if women are fertile by the way they walk and psychopaths can tell who is a good victim by their stride.

2) You can learn to be more charismatic.

3) Hand position can signal power or submissiveness.

4) There are types of body language that are better when you’re trying to persuade someone.

5) Sitting up straight can make you feel more powerful, act more powerfullyfeel less pain and increase your self-confidence… unless you’re a woman.

  1. Jazakumullah for this. I’m interested to learn more about body language. This also reminds me of a quote to the effect that ‘what you say, says a lot but what you don’t say, says even more’. There are also times when ‘silence speaks’. Beyond words, there is much that is conveyed through body language at times. This can be a fascinating subject to explore. However, we may misinterpret silence and body language at times and be suspicious and paranoiac about what may not be true. This is why it may be safer to stick to facts and spoken words and not to infer too much beyond them. Wassalam

  2. Actions and emotions are related! Whatever we do even if by way of pretension affects our emotions and mood. The findings in this post can be used for a deeper understanding of our psyche and even spirituality. The Messiah, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani wrote:

Reflection confirms that physical conditions deeply affect the soul. For instance, when our eyes are filled with tears, even if the tears are artificially induced, heart is immediately affected and becomes sorrowful. In the same way, when we begin to laugh, even if the laughter is artificially induced, the heart begins to feel cheerful. It has also been observed that physical prostration in prayer induces humility in the soul. As a contrast when we draw ourselves up physically and strut about with our neck raised and our breast pushed forward, this attitude induces a mood of arrogance and vain glory. These instances establish clearly that physical conditions certainly affect spiritual conditions.

  3. Jazakumullah for your comment Dr Shah. I was thinking more in terms of what our body language conveys or can convey to others. Thanks for drawing attention on how our body and physical conditions deeply affect our soul.

I am also particular drawn to the idea of emotions and moods being related to our actions. Some people suffer from mood disorders and mood swings. I would be interested to find some posts explaining more about this and ways to treat and cope with such disorders.

  4. Developing spirituality, serving humanity and Zikr Ilahi can be tools to manage one’s mood. Details to follow, when I can find more time. A lecture delivered by Hadhrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmud Ahmad about Zikr Ilahi:

Please also see my article about Zikr Ilahi and human brain in the Alislam-eGazette:

For Zikr Ilahi one should choose prayers and verses of the Holy Quran that one’s personality is most in need of, for one reason or another. This needs an element of insight into your ‘self,’ a self psycho-analysis, if you will.
