KABUL: The suicide bomber who assassinated former Afghan President Burhanuddin Rabbani insisted on meeting face-to-face with the ex-president and waited in Kabul for days to talk with him about brokering peace with the Taliban, an associate of Rabbani’s said Wednesday.

Rabbani — who headed a government council seeking a political settlement with the insurgents — was killed Tuesday evening by a man who had claimed he was a Taliban leader wanting to reconcile with the Afghan government.

  1. In fact it is tug of war between ISI and CIA. After Abbotabad operation, ISI,once more, seems to be having an upper edge. Few days back attack in Kabul and now assassination of Burhan Rabbani supports this view point. What will be end result of this political power game. No one knows it.
