Mohammad Sharif is thankful his family can celebrate the Muslim holy month of Ramadan in peace.
While the Canadian military has ended its commitment in Afghanistan, violence has continued, including two recent, high-profile political assassinations.
Sharif said he wouldn’t dare return to Afghanistan, even for a visit.
“There is still so much fighting and problems with suicide bombers. The war is not finished, yet. It’s not safe to go back,” said Sharif.
“When there is no civil war and there is peace, we would go for a visit, but not before.”
Sharif, his wife Homa Anwari and their five children fled their home in Kabul in the late-1990s to escape the iron fisted rule of the Taliban.
