In ‘the West’ the ladies are proud to be given the right of ‘ladies first’ when food is being served for instance.
I made a historical research into this ‘habit’ and reached back to the time of the Italian Borgias. During those highly ‘active’ political days it was a habit to poison ones’ enemies, rather than simply shoot them.
In those good old days anyone who was someone would have a personal slave, who would be made to taste all food before ‘the master’ consumed it.
Unfortunately then as now inflation was a factor and not every middle class family could afford personal slaves. Consequently some clever gentleman initiated the ‘ladies first’ campagne and encouraged the ladies of the family to taste the food first. If they survived the gentlemen would then ‘attack’ the food as well.

Marmalade. Who does not like the British Marmalade made of Oranges, some bitter, some sweet. Did you notice that the orange peel is added to the Marmalade?
How come?
My historical research traced the oranges back to the good old days when Catholic Spain was on good terms with Catholic England. The Queen of Spain sent as a present some Oranges to England.
Her Royal Majesty however forgot to inform the English that oranges would be eaten pealed. Consequently the English did not know that they should get rid of the peel. As it was a bit difficult to eat it they decided to cut it into small pieces and that is how they ended up in the Marmalade.
ok. no problem.
