The German newspaper “Süddeutsche“ reported on 13. November 2013, that the German parties CDU and SPD decided during their negotiation talks – for a great coalition government – to facilitate the conditions for asylum seekers in Germany.
By law asylum seekers are not allowed to travel around the country (without special permission) or to stay in other places in the country e.g. for family visits for a longer period. Both partys plan to ease the rules. Asylum cases should be fixed within three month, asylum seekers should be able to move freely around the country and they should be able to get a work permit.
The conditions of asylum seekers in Germany are worse than expected. Usually the cases extend over years. Therefore the Asylum and Migration authorities should have more staff to deal within a short time carefully and right, so the negotiators said.
The so called “Residenzpflicht”, which determines, that the asylum seeker is not allowed to leave the county, should not be cancelled, but more eased.
Asylum seekers with an ongoing process got a work permit after nine month at the earliest, now they should get it within six month. Also the language courses should be more improved.
The German NGO “Pro Asyl” welcomed these announced decisions of the negotiation talks. Concrete results are expected on 21. November 2013.
