Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s effort and its leader were recognized by Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley’s office of Service and Volunteerism on November 4th, 2013.
Imam Nasim Mahdi was one of 29 recipient recognized for the services rendered to Maryland and its citizens. Our community was the only faith group recognized and Imam Mahdi Sahib was one of three Muslim recipients.

SUBMITTED NOMINATION (EDITED FOR LENGTH): Naseem Mahdi has dedicated his life to serving his faith and spreading its message of love and peace. In 1977, he completed a seven-year training program with an emphasis on comparative study of religions from the Missionary Training College of The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Rabwah, Pakistan. He was immediately appointed to lead the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Switzerland, and eight years later, he was assigned to Canada, where he led the Ahmadìyya Muslim Community there for 25 years. ln 2010, Naseem began a new position as National Vice President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA.
As the National Vice President, Naseem decided to initiate a nationwide “Muslims for Life” campaign in September 2011 to commemorate the tenth anniversary of 9/11 and to highlight the sanctity of life as a central part of the Islam religion. Under his leadership, all 72 chapters of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in the US held blood drives and partnered with many religious and non-religious organizations including the American Red Cross and other blood collection agencies. This resulted in the collection of more than 11,000 pints of blood, helping save up to 33,000 lives. ln 2012, Mr. Mahdi repeated this campaìgn and 369 blood drives were registered which collected 11,170 pints of blood, helping save as many as 33,510 lives.
