An Open Letter to “Islamic” Extremists

Source: muzlimbuzz.sg

Dear “Islamic” Extremists,

As you would have noticed, I used quotation marks around the word Islamic because there is nothing Islamic about what you are doing. Your status in the sight of Allah is between you and Him so I will not go so far as to commit takfir on you, like you are wont to do to the rest of us who do not practice your literalist, fundamentalist Islam.

I generally enjoy my editorial duties: assigning work to my writers, coming up with new story ideas for the magazine, and I tend to go for the uplifting, spiritually-rejuvenating type of articles because God knows we all need it. But coming to the office this week with the Kenyan mall shooting and suicide bombing at a Pakistani churchstill fresh in my head, I decided that I had had enough.

Honestly, you kind of… suck.

You are a disgrace to the millions of Muslims who are struggling daily (yes, the ACTUAL meaning of Jihad) to be the best version of themselves, to restrain their basest desires and manifest Divine Characteristics and Attributes in themselves. You cause our scholars to release press statements to say they condemn your senseless killings and suicide bombing, over and over again, when their precious time can be used to uplift others, spread the teachings of Islam and other, you know, significantly-beneficial things!

You make us, the majority of the Muslims in the world, carry the burden of having to reiterate again and again that Islam literally comes from the root word “salaam” which means peace, and then put up with incredulous looks from our non-Muslim friends and colleagues who read about your suicide bombings and shootings.

You make it difficult for some of us to wear the hijab, or properly grow a beard for fear of being attacked. You even make it difficult for Sikhs to live a normal life wearing their turbans, thank you very much. I am SO convinced that all your killing and threats have made this world a better place.

You claim to be doing the work of God but you cannot possibly be referring to Allah, The Most Compassionate and The Most Merciful right? I mean, why would a God who introduces Himself as Ar-Rahman and Ar-Raheem (Most Compassionate, Most Merciful, respectively) ask you to take the lives of others?

Also, if you claim to be doing this in the name of Islam then you must have read the Qur’an (you know, the Holy Book that contains the revelations received by our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)) and must have somehow come across the following verses?

Qur’an 6:161: “…Take not life, which Allah has made sacred..”
Qur’an 5:53: “… Whoso kills a soul, unless it be for murder or for wreaking corruption in the land, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind.”
Qur’an 2:190: “Fight in the way of God against those who fight against you, but BEGIN NOT HOSTILITIES. Lo! God does not love the aggressors.”

No?

How about some Hadith then (collection of sayings of our beloved Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him)?

1. “Do not be people without minds of your own, saying that if others treat you well you will treat them well, and that if they do wrong you will do wrong to them. Instead, accustom yourselves to do good if people do good and not to do wrong (even) if they do evil.”

2. ”Do not kill any old person.”

3. “Do not kill any women.”

4. “Do not kill any children.”

5. “Do not kill any people in places of worship.”

Did you know points 2 to 5 referred specifically to wartime, when people generally take lives, and yet these are the guidelines that the Prophet (pbuh) has laid down for his Companions, and here you are, killing women AND children AND old persons at a shopping mall (seriously?) and at a church and there isn’t even a war happening! Shame on you!

Terrorism and its crime against civilians is… continue reading at muzlimbuzz.sg

Ameera Begum, on behalf of a significant number of Muslims who are equally disgusted

  1. Muslims give lip service to Muhammad.
It was nothing for him to send troops around Arabia and the Gulf to bring into line adherents who had strayed. People died.

So is it anyone wonder at the roots of Islam there are deaths and people who are prepared to die.

True you are disgusted about what is happening in the name of Allah.

Once again it is lip service. Knee jerk reactions to stuff that is deeply embedded in Islamic culture not just religion.

No wonder there are break away sects all trying to push their various agendas.

Now a days Muhammad is not around to bring into line people who stray. They stray any way.

Another point why memorize the Koran? It should be there to live out. I could memorize the words on a cornflakes packet but thats not going to make me a Breakfastarianist. Even young people who haven’t lived life enough, haven’t the experience are learning stuff from rote. Rote education is dead.
Children being beaten to learn the Koran. Girls having to stand on one leg and being beaten because they slipped up getting their words in order. Ask the mothers and grandparents and they will relate horrific stories. How can their minds process what is going on when they are in a turmoil?
Atrocities have been committed by people with a gun in one hand and the Koran in another as they leap over the wall into battle screaming out words to their God.

  2. The writer has spared the harsh Muslim terrorists the tile of Kaafir. I can prove from the Quran that they are Kaafir. And the punishment for the believing kaafirs is much more severe than the non-believing kaafirs.

Any one who is peaceful person of any faith is not Kaafir. That is proved easily from the Quran. Those peaceful people, if they do good deeds (and being peaceful is one of the first good deeds), such people will have their reward with their Lord. They will not have any fear and they will not be sorry. (Verse 2:62/53)

That was the verse to indicate that peaceful people of all faiths (including Muslims) are promised good reward. The problem with the Maulvis is that they do not understand exactly who is Kaafir. They have funny beliefs such as “Any one who has not recited the Kalimah is a Kaafir.” Such beliefs are creating much trouble and therein is a mistake.

According to Quran, a kaafir is an open enemy of any faith. kaafir is an evident belligerent, combatant, hostile person. He/she is not a hidden enemy. He/she opposes the truth openly by word and deed. A good example is Abu Jehl.

An interesting point: A believer (say a Momin), if he becomes enemy of faith is also a Kaafir and he/she has much more warning of chastisement, warning of severe punishment. See verses 3:86 onward, specially 3:85/86,87.

Best thing is to read from verse 3:80/81, It says that Allah took a serious pledge from all prophets, nations. The prophets get the message and convey o their people. After the prophet, messengers come, definitely come, carrying the same message. The people are to obey and assist them. The messengers will prove their truth and will show clear signs of their evident truth (verse 3:85/86). The true messenger will carry the same message as that of the prophet himself, and will strive to carry forward that message.

Such people who will disobey the messenger are warned of severe punishment and they are referred to as Kaafir in the verse 3:85/86. (any one can see it)

Kaafir are described in our English translation of the Quran as disbelievers. That is a gentle word and does not convey the real meaning. The Kaafir should be translated (marked) as an enemy, as a hostile disbeliever. That will make the meaning clear, Insha Allah.

  3. Also, some pastors (Terry Jones) and some other in Holland are complaining of harsh verses in Quran, that those verses incite Muslims to kill the disbelievers….
I have checked, all those verses had the word Kaafir in them. And the English translation was something like “Kill the disbelievers…..”. So the wrong meaning was being conveyed to the world at large due to gentle translation of the word “kaafir”.

If Kaafir was translated as Harsh disbelievers, or belligerent disbelievers, nobody could take offence from the verses of the Quran. Nobody could blame Quran for being harsh.

The dare devil (Al-Shaitan) is also Kaafir and it is mentioned that Shaitan is a manifest enemy of mankind. Similarly, Kaafir are also mentioned as clear manifest enemies, See Verse where Salaat Qasr is mentioned may be 4:101/102. Also last verse of Sura Saff.
