Following report was published in Jang London on the wretched practice of Halalaa.

A women whose husband had uttered divorce 3 times contacted a local Maulvi sahib who had her Halalaa done with several persons. Finally she got fed up and went back to his husband, but she had been negatively impacted by this situation that she became a psychotic. This woman had arrived in Midland after getting married in Pakistan whose husband had given her talaq 3 times in a fit of anger. She had heard from her parents in Pakistan that if a husband utters ‘I divorce you’ three times, then divorce becomes binding. She went to a secret Halalaa centre with a female friend. A Maulvi sahib there told her she is now divorced and haram for husband and in order to go back to him, she has to have Halalaa. She started living with a friend. In the meantime her husband showed her a fatwa stating talaq is not binding and they are still husband and wife. Instead she went back to Maulvi sahib who Had
Halalaa done with a man for one night. She went back to Maulvi sahib, who told her Halalaa was effective therefore she has to Halalaa again.
J.P. told Jang reporter on condition of anonymity that one night this Maulvi sahib had Halalaa done with this simple minded woman. This sordid episode brought depression on the woman who felt she had been raped. She feels betrayed because her husband did not know any of this.
A Pakistani social worker told that she gets many such cases. She stated that in many cases women have been raped by such low life Maulvis. Such woman ask for legal help, but they cannot be
Helped because they had consented to sex. This cannot be termed as rape. In one case a woman was divorced by her husband in a fit of anger, but later they made up. They both went to a Maulvi sahib, who agreed to do Halalaa with his wife himself. Next day she went to get his wife but Maulvi sahib refused saying she was his wife. Residents of the locality got involved and beat up Maulvi. Finally he agreed to divorce her.
One social worker said Maulvis and so called religious scholars are exploiting women in the name of religion. This is happening with new converts as well who go to these Maulvis for guidance but they sexually exploit them. Many such convert women are living in shelters now after such shameful acts. One women who did not want her name used, told Jang reporter, she had become a ping pong between men. All schools of thought agree there is Halalaa in Islam, it is haram. Maulvis and cheap scholars have opend businesses in the name of Islam. People are advised to go to authentic, approved agencies or offices in cases of divorce and martital problems.
