WASHINGTON, DC – House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced today that they will hold a U.S. Capitol ceremony next month to present Professor Muhammad Yunus with a Congressional Gold Medal.
The Gold Medal represents Congress’s highest expression of national appreciation for distinguished achievements and contributions. Congress awarded the medal to Professor Yunus in 2010 in recognition of his efforts to combat global poverty. Professor Yunus has won international acclaim for developing the concept of microcredit and using that model of lending to promote economic and social opportunity. For his work, Professor Yunus was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006. A complete list of Congressional Gold Medal recipients is available at House.gov.

  1. It is a great recognition for Dr.Yunus, a humble man from Bangladesh. He is also the first Muslim to ever be on the Congressional Medal of Honor recipient list. The award was announced in 2010, however the ceremony will take place on Wednesday.

  2. It has been mentioned at many places in the Quran “Surely, Allah does NOT waste the reward of the doers of spontaneous good.” They are always rewarded by the grace of Allah.

Professor doctor Muhammad Yunus deserves rewards. Allah wants that people of all faiths (Whatever denomination) to do good deeds (that includes being peaceful). “Their reward is with their Lord. Such people will not have any fear nor will they be sorry.” (Al-Quran verse 2:161/162).

  3. It is a great recognition for Dr. Younus, but it came very late. Why they took so much time to recognise his work and achievments. Any we congratulate Dr. Younus on this award.
