The Nation: “Dekho mujhe jo deeda-e-ibrat nigah ho, Meri suno jo gosh-e-naseehat niyosh hai.”
– Mirza Ghalib
According to reports, Pakistani cities – Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, etc – are rapidly becoming killing fields, with bomb blasts and gun firing a regular occurrence, and ethnic violence between Sunnis and Shias, and persecution of minorities escalating. Nobody knows that when he steps out into the streets of these cities whether or not he will return alive. A beautiful metropolitan city like Karachi is becoming, if it has not already become, a Jurassic Park.
Mr Shamshad Ahmed, in his article, entitled “May You Live Long, Katju!”, published in TheNation on February 26, 2013, has said that the present situation in Pakistan is due to “a failure of governance, not of the nationhood.” I respectfully beg to differ.
In my opinion, the present violent strifes and disturbances in Pakistan are the logical and inevitable result of creating a theocratic state in this subcontinent and, hence, the only solution is the reunification of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh under a strong, secular, modern minded government, which does not tolerate religious extremism and bigotry, whether Hindu or Muslim, and crushes it with an iron hand.

Very brave of this newspaper to have published such an article by an Indian challenging the very basis of Pakistan. I wonder if any Indian newspaper will have the courage ever to publish an article by a Pakistani questioning the basis of India. Indian media is militantly nationalistic. Justice katju of course completely ignores the narrow Brahmin led majoritaniarism that finally led the the division of India. He conveniently ignores how Nehru and Patel led the divsion of India. Please refer to the article by Sujata Bose and also to the book written by BJP leader on this topic.
Interesting article. Most comments however are rather frightening… (in the original article)
You should have identified the writer of this
column in the Nation: Shamshad Ahmed. He is a
former Foreign Secretary of Pakistan and a favourite of failed Amir-ul-Momineen Nawaz Sharif of Raiwind
Sharif.
Dear Mr. Ahmed: I can confirm that the writer of this column with this title is Mr. Justice Katju. This column was published on March 2, 2013, and was written in response Mr Shamshad Ahmed’s original column entitled “May You Live Long, Katju!”, published in The Nation on February 26, 2013. Thanks
@Abdul Alim,
The article is about educating the people and Mr. Shamshad Ahmed and telling the truth (what katju thinks as truth). There is nothing to do with India publishing basis of India written by pakistani.
Has there ever been written one? first of all. Here Katju is trying to unite the nations, but you are still devided by the mentality that pakistan has published one, india has not the courage.
Jazakalla
Also, “Indian media is militantly nationalistic”?? Is there any basis for this? I dont know which channel you watch or which new paper you read.Yes I agree that there is nationalitic bais. Almost all the national media are in onw way or the other nationalistic. But saying “militantly nationalistic” just shows how immeture and unrealistic is your back ground research. I believe that you are just fallowing actuall “anti- indian” media from pakistan. I have heared from various pakistani channels we get here in england about india and some of your comment reflects the things i heared from these “what ever happens we are Anti-India” media.

Frothing at the Mouth
Television news is fast becoming the most dangerous extremist in India’s civil society.
….excerpt: It is in this context that television news channels have picked up the news of the killing of Indian soldiers and the decapitation of one of them, allegedly by soldiers of the Pakistan army. It has not just been the reporting of news but rather the sustained and well-planned build-up of a mass hysteria over the issue. It is not just one, or a few, channels which are guilty of this. With a few, and notable exceptions, television news channels and anchors have competed with each other to get people angry and hysterical. Stilted news, half-truths, outright falsehoods, a careful selection of “opinion makers” and “experts” who push hawkish positions and a shrill intemperate language have all been deployed each evening in a calculated move to ratchet up anger in the drawing rooms (and by extension, the “street”) and thus enhance viewership. In this particular context, the television channels have single-handedly built up a serious, yet minor, issue into a national hysteria.

jazakallah- No offence taken on your comments. I am equally critical of Pakistan in many of my posts. Being an Ahmadi Muslim means that I follow our beloved Khalifa on absolute justice. Hope you can be more forgiving in your opinion next time.
@Abdul Alim,
First of all i have not taken your comments as offensive. I was just bringing your attention that you are doing kind of opposite what Justice Katju is trying to do. And i have never ever mentioned anything against Pakistan.
Now about the Indian media, As i mentioned in my previous post, there are channels and media propagating news biased towards India. But on the other hand there are Media who is actually bringing the truth. You have quoted one of the website from Pune ( thats in India) itself. If i remember correctly it was The Hindu ( one of the indian news papers) which published what happened before this heinous beheading happened and reported that there is an element of Indian provocation. you still try to “militarise” Indian media. Is that not painting every media with same brush? 7
My point is, when ever the matter of India and Pakistan comes try to avoid comparison- we are good in this you are not so good in that, we are better than you mentality. if any one does a good job just appreciate it.
Jazkallah
Mr Alim. Kudos to you…Mr Truth seeker, whatever be the shortcomings, we as a nation have , yet we are progressive.Look at the varied cultures, languages, all seek and meet one another.Though no denying the fact, we have issues, where lot needs to be done , we have failed , we may have succeeded, we may still fail , yet we shall always seek to strive for some semblance for all to meet at a common point.
