Amid the surging poverty across the globe, a newly released list of richest people in the world points to the climbing number of billionaires that have control over even more amount of wealth.
The Monday release of the newest list of “the world’s billionaires” in 2013, the US-based Forbes magazine indicates that the number of global billionaires has again registered a record high of 1,426, pointing to an increase of 210 compared to the previous year.
According to the report, these billionaires across the globe have “an aggregate net worth of USD5.4 trillion, up from USD4.6 trillion” in the past year.
The financial magazine further reveals that the US leads the richest people list with 442 billionaires.
East Asia ranks next in the list with 386 billionaires, followed by Europe with 366, the Americas with 129 and the Middle East and Africa with 103 super rich individuals.
The richest person on the list remains to be Mexico’s Carlos Slim Helu, with a reported net worth of USD73 billion, followed by American executive of Microsoft Corporation Bill Gates with reported net worth of USD67 billion.
The report further indicates that the number of female billionaires in the world have also climbed from 104 to 138 within the past year.
The news comes as latest figures on global poverty indicates that at least 80 percent of people across the world live on less than USD10 per day with persistently widening income differentials.

I would contrast these billionaires with the prophet Muhammad’s policy of not collecting any wealth. Muslims try to follow the path of their prophet in easy rituals but forget that the prophet did not sleep at night with any money in his house.
That is an important Sunnah ( habit) of the prophet Muhammad s.a.w.s. which needs to be followed today by all in order to save the world from poverty and destruction.
Canada does not have a big share of billionaires.
