Daily Times: LAHORE: The Hindu community will celebrate Diwali, also known as festival of lights on Tuesday (today). Special prayers will be held at temples across the city. The Hindus celebrate this day with great zeal and fervour.
On the first day of the mega event, people worship Laxami to seek prosperity and other blessings. On the second day, they visit ‘Shamshan Ghats’ (graveyards) to remember their loved ones while on the concluding day, they celebrate in community gatherings.
As per a tradition in the subcontinent people belonging to the Hindu community visit their relatives and friends and share sweets and other traditional dishes. Fireworks and crackers are the main distinctive feature of the festival.
It is pertinent to mention here that as per Hindu beliefs, Diwali is the day that marks the return of Avtar Rama to his kingdom Ayudhya, after a self-exile of 14 years to, fulfill the desire of his stepmother. Following an old custom, people enlighten candles outside their houses to welcome Rama. In accordance with a similar custom, they set off firecrackers to celebrate Rama’s return.
