WASHINGTON: The United States is not considering terror tags for Pakistan and its intelligence agency ISI despite charges of their patronage of terrorist groups, American officials said on Friday, following the designation of the Pakistan-backed Haqqani network as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.

“We are making absolutely no effort to begin a process to designate Pakistan as a state sponsor of terrorism,” a Senior Administration Official told journalists in a background briefing, adding, “If anything, they have been an extremely valuable ally in countering extremism and terrorism, and we are committed to continuing and maintaining and increasing that coordination and cooperation.”

The remarks came in the face of copious commentaries in Pakistan’s own civil society and media about the country’s slide into extremism and patronage of terrorism, unhindered and in some cases supported by the government, the military-intelligence, and the judiciary. Pakistan also brazenly cracked down on people who helped the US eliminate Osama bin Laden attracting wide censure in the US and elsewhere.

  1. I read with great interest and sadness the article: No terror tag for Pakistan, ISI: US, published by Times of India and repeated by Muslim Times.

I do not expect from Indians a sober, nuanced and a bit serious analysis of the geo-political interests of USA, India and Pakistan in the region but I fail to undetrstand, why your newspaper brought a very biased and hateful article against its neighbor Pakistan, which you hopefully still love. The readers of TOI were even worst, with shameless and actually nonsensical comments, which only goes to prove that India does not wish Pakistan well.

One thing is the partition of Hindustan and its consequences for the sub-continent but quite another to demonize and even malign Pakistan this way. It is not the way to create good will and friendship between the two countries.

As a European with Indian/Pakistanis roots, my appeal to Indian brothers and sisters is that they have to put behind the bad blood of history and learn to live in peace and harmony. Pakistan and China are not going anywhere, while USA will disappear from the area soon. So it is in the interest of all parties to calm down and solve the problems at hand – reduction of poverty, education, gender equality, food, clothing’s and peace.

By the way, why to use a colored picture of Muslims praying, with an anti-Pakistan caption: America is not considering terror tags for Pakistan and its intelligence agency ISI despite charges of their patronage of terrorist groups.
Such anti-Islam coverage says a lot about Times of India’s editors and journalist’s mindset than this supposed Pakistani support of terrorism.

  2. MT is a blog to house various perceptions about all ongoing important global matters. You gave yours. Now left on readers to evaluate and formulate their own opinion.

  3. Hi Bashy! Off topic. Why is it that Blacks in America have to proove their loyalty to America and not Whites? Why is that a Muslim have to prove his loyalty to India and not a Hindu? Why is that Ahmadis/Hindus/Christians/Shias/Bengali have to proove their loyalty to Pakistan and not Sunnis? Any answers? My friend we understand that it’s nothing but survival of the fittest. No?

Secondly coming to the point: It’s not just Indians…look at the reality of your people. Why is it that Pakistanis are the most hated people amongst Muslims after Israelis and Americans? I am sure if you have any friends or relatives working in middle-eastern arab country, they will let you know about the image of Pakistanis amongst local Arabs. Regarding comments in TOI, go and read any british/American news paper comments. Or some other country where Pakis have bombed people. You will find no difference.

Think for a while, what is the difference between an Iraqi orphan whose family was murdered by American soldiers and an Indian orphan who might have lost his parent or a dear one to a Paki terrorist? Only that prior is a Muslim and later is Hindu/Muslim/Sikh/Christian/Jain/Atheist? How ridiculous are Pakis and how arrogant they are! In fact some commonality if we try to find amongst Pakis and Americans is that both are terrorists, arrogant and mean.

Just a friendly advice. Stop your people from murdering Christians, Hindus etc inside your country. It does not matter for me either if you kill anyone inside your country. But STOP SENDING MURDERER NAZI PAKI TERRORISTS TO INDIA(Caps on purpose). If you are a sincere Pakistani then you should be doing something to change ground realities of Pakistan in the real world, instead of trying to bully people in the virtual world with your self proclaimed definition of ‘patriotism’. Not to forget that those whom you are trying to bully are already cornered and secluded in the Pakistani society.

You might obviously have a better sense of advocacy than me. So prepare your list of arguments you will have on the day of resurrection before Allah(swt) if you believe in that at all from your heart.

Lasyly, Just like Muslim ummah is diverse, TMT too is diverse. I am sure you will not find it in any other sect/jamat of Muslim in the present world where Muslims who are Whites, Mongoloids, Asians, Blacks from Americas, Europe, Africa, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, rest of Asia working side by side for a common cause. Get over of this syndrome of ultra-nationalism. If not, then may be someday you will find African, Chinese, Central Asian, American, European, Arabs and rest of Muslims will unite to reject you people for this trait. Like the survey itself says!

Next time you have to say anything here, be little polite and reasonable as there are muslims from other nationalities/sects who visit this site. I am sure you will not want them to have a wrong impression about the character of Pakistani people in general.

Thanks for your understanding. Have a good day.
