Eight members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association of Canada (AMYA) were in Waterdown on May 15 to pray for the well-being of the community, its residents and businesses.

The young Muslim canvassers are part of a larger group of AMYA volunteers on a 40-day journey across the province, spreading messages of peace, promoting religious harmony, educating residents on the teachings of Islam and dispelling misconceptions about their religion.
“The idea is to lend a hand for mutual respect and cooperation and to show the real face of Islam,” said Roomi Sahi, AMYA’s regional outreach coordinator. “We want to show that Islam promotes peace, tolerance and mutual respect.”
Waterdown was the fifth community visited during the organization’s 40-town tour that began on May 11 and wraps up on June 19. The campaigners, led by Sahi, expected to knock on the doors of roughly local 500 homes Tuesday afternoon.
“We are trying to foster love between our fellow brothers and our hope is that (Waterdown’s) belief in God is strengthened by our visit here today,” said Sahi.
The AMYA of Canada group is an auxiliary wing of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, a not-for-profit religious organization established in over 200 countries around the globe with 65 Canadian chapters.
