The writer’s letter promoting Christian philosophy of justice and punishment cannot be applied universally today.
For if we are to forgive and turn the other cheek, then by the same teaching we should also not resist when someone steals from us (Luke 6:29).
Such a society will fail in its basic function of protecting its citizens.
The writer also mentions that mercy is an attribute of God. True, but so is being just. If God forgave mercilessly then why the stories mentioned in the Bible of tribes and nations being destroyed because they deviated from the path of Godliness? We cannot and should not protect the life and dignity of those who do not respect the life and dignity of others. Read more
