Promoting peace, condemning terrorism and dispelling myths about Islam have been the goals of the nation-wide campaign of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association of Canada, an auxiliary wing of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
The non-profit charitable religious organization (which works in 200 countries, with 65 chapters throughout Canada) has conducted the campaign over the past 12 months, visiting 320,078 houses in 238 towns, with some 2,335 volunteer reaching out to an estimated 1,235,915 people.
Now they have organized another kind of event that they are taking to libraries in a number of communities, including Port Hope.
Tribute to Mother Mary — An Islamic Perspective is an open house that espouses all the goals of their previous campaign, but also aims to educate people bout the status that Islam gives to Mother Mary and to women in general.
The presentation was made in Cornwall and Perth last weekend. This weekend, presentations will be made in Port Hope, as well as Brockville, Grimsby and St. Mary’s.
Hours for the Port Hope presentation are noon to 4 p.m. at the library (31 Queen St.).
