Short people have shortage of Genes

Shorter people could blame their lack of height on a shortage of genes, a study suggests.

Height is largely passed down through families but scientists have so far only identified specific gene characteristics to explain about 10 per cent of the difference between people’s heights.

But researchers believe that missing copies of genes or other sections of DNA could be to blame for up to half of the genetic impact on our height.

The genetic abnormalities – known as copy number variants (CNV) – are alterations within the chromosome that means a cell has either too many or too few copies of a slice of DNA, the acid which contains our genetic code. Read more
