French satirical paper firebombed after publishing Mohammed cartoon

Cartoonist Luz brandishes a copy of Charlie Hebdo in front of the burnt premises.

By RFI

The offices of French satirical paper Charlie Hebdo were hit by an apparent arson attack overnight just ahead of the publication of an edition carrying a front-page cartoon of the prophet Mohammed.

Charlie Hebdo’s issue this week renamed itself Charia Hebdo and featured a cartoon of the prophet Mohammed threatening “Ten lashes if you don’t die of laughter” on its front page.

An editorial questioned whether Islamist parties had any place in a democracy.

Charbonnier claimed that the paper was not seeking to be provocative.

  1. True Islamic teachings do not justify such reaction. But what has happened to this civilized society and after all why they want to play with spiritual sentiments of the followers of this great and peacful religion.

  2. Right, of course we do not support this ‘fire bombing’. In the same way of course we also do not support the publication of such cartoons. Another aspect is that surely the publishers knew quite well that there will be negative reactions (not necessarily the fire bombing may be) which they were seeking in order to promote themselves. After all who knew of their existence before this bombing? Similarly to Salman Rushdie’s book. It was ‘mediocre’ and would never have won any literature price were it not for all the controversy. Therefore why should Muslims ‘promote’ these ill-chosen publications by their ‘militant’ action? What would be the answer from members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community? Prayers I would say … Usually ‘Love for all, hatred for none’, but may be in extreme cases ‘may Allah be the judge in this life and the next?’

  3. What a grave contradiction between words and actions of these civilized people. On one side the preach civilization and on the other playing with the sentiments of millions of peace-loving people around the world.

However, be it very clear, that we do not justify the reaction which was shown; it has nothing to do with Islam and true Muslims. Our message was, is and always will be, as mentioned above, “Love for all, Hatred for None”.

Let us all translate the beautiful teachings of Islam and the strong character of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be on him, into actions, as it was instructed by the Supreme Head of the Ahmadiyya Community, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad (aba). That is the best response to show to such ill-natured people.

May our Lord show His everlasting blessings, mercies and favours on our Master Muhammad, peace be on him. Ameen
