AMMAN – Higher education experts from Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states have recommended that their countries revise their strategies to give universities more independence.
They also called for revising subjects taught in university to align the output of higher education institutions with labour market demands.
These recommendations were issued last week, during a meeting of regional experts to draft the Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation strategy for higher education development in OIC member countries.
“Although these recommendations are not binding for these countries, they can be used as guidelines when amending or developing higher education strategies,” Ministry of Higher Education Secretary General Mustafa Odwan said.
He added that the meeting also called for encouraging scientific research during the graduate studies stage, and developing a better environment for scientific research.
