MALACCA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will help the Health Ministry to provide additional training on defensive driving to ambulance drivers following frequent accidents involving ambulances recently.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri said Saturday relevant classes would be conducted with the department involving to train ambulance drivers about defensive driving.
The government viewed such fatal accidents involving hospital ambulances seriously in the interest of public safety, he said.
“We will take necessary action to make sure the drivers are competent to drive ambulances safely,” he told reporters after closing a training exercise for 191 assistant enforcement officers at the JPJ academy in Tiang Dua.
He said the Health Ministry was expected to conduct training on safety practice and guidelines for its ambulance drivers soon.
Asked if the department would set any speed limit for ambulance, department director-general Datuk Solah Mat Hassan, who was also present, said the matter could be solved internally by the Health Ministry.
