MAKKAH: On Wednesday and Thursday evenings, Makkah residents were treated to a performance by a Chinese circus. The shows, which were held in the holy city for the first time, will conclude Friday.
The circus put on its performances at Al-Wehdah Sports Club’s theater located in Al-Taneem district.
This is outside the boundaries of the holy precincts, so there was no issue in inviting non-Muslim performers. Under Islamic law, non-Muslims are not allowed to enter the holy city.
The acrobatic feats in the circus were performed by 20 young Chinese men, whose strength, flexibility and precision dazzled the audience — young and old alike.
Eid celebrations were also held in other locations, including the car park on the Makkah-Jeddah Expressway.
More than 10,000 spectators attended the celebrations in which folklore troupes from Egypt, Yemen and Syria presented their traditional cultural dances. READ MORE
