West and the rest

Source: Times of India

As the United States and Europe struggle to contain their debt crises, the decline of the West and ‘the rise of the rest’ increasingly shape the international political discourse. Analysts around the world predict the dawn of a new world order led by mostly non-western giants such as China, India and Brazil, and wonder about the nature of that new order.

Analogies between the United States and the declining Roman Empire abound. Yet rather than seeking to overturn the western world order, the distinguishing feature of the post-western world will be the rising powers’ contestation of the western monopoly on defining modernity. This will be the true battleground of the 21st century.

  1. I’m personally looking forward to this new world order and the hope it will bring in world affairs and Insha’Allah PEACE!

  2. Dear Raziya, I do not know how old you are, but whether you are young or younger, it is unlikely that you will see the real world PEACE in your generation. Collapsing empires take their time …

  3. Irrespective of age, no harm should be seen in optimism. It is not only empires rather every things takes its time. I was a school kid who used to get six sticks on my both palms every Friday while going for slatul Juma in distant Ahamdiyya Mosque thus returning late for afternoon school periods. It was in Pakistan. Now after 45 years things have further deteriorated rather than improving but I am still optimistics that things for Ahmaides will improve in my mother land. So let Ms Raziya to have her dreams alive.
