US to realize the loss and suffering of Pakistan – Haqqani

WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States Hussain Haqqani has stated that relations between the two ‘allies’ had reached the “lowest level in history” and that the feelings of mistrust towards the US was growing among his countrymen.

Huqqani in his article in the US media, likened the current situation to that of the 1989 era when the US abandoned Pakistan and Afghanistan after fulfilling its interests against the Soviets.

“Most Pakistanis mistrust the motives of the United States, believing America is somehow manipulating, exploiting, patronizing and treating us with contempt. The fear that the United States will desert Pakistan once again, as it did at the end of the war against the Soviets in Afghanistan in 1989, is widespread,” he wrote in a column for CNN.

However, Haqqani cautioned the media in both countries to tone down the propaganda saying, “Hyperbole and soundbites are influencing discussion of a crucial international partnership.”

The ambassador urged for an open inquiry into the Abbotabad operation and called for details to be made public. He urged the media in the US to stop implying that the government or the military of Pakistan were in cahoots with Osama bin Laden.

  1. He is neither diplomat nor a bureaucrat. Simply a scholar to teach in higher institutions. Like many other favouritisms, Mr 10% (now 110%) being his trustworthy friend gave him this lucrative job. He was the one who issued hundreds of visas to US spies without adhering to proper inquiry channel. Because of this man whole Pak Army is in mess these days. While delivering a lecture in National Defence Uni Islamabad when one third senior brass of Pak Army opined that US is the main threat to Pak Security he gave the fatwa ok then Pakistan has lost the war. Now after having created the whole mess back home to whom he is trying to make fool. Have a heart Mr Haqqani and do not isssue such statements.
