Sexual addiction: Congressman Weiner Admits to Sending lewd Photos

Sexual addiction forces sensible and successful men to resort to senseless behavior.  The Quranic teachings aim at promoting chastity and purifying human character by introducing modesty in dress and some restraint in interaction with opposite gender.  For example, the Holy Quran says:

Say to the believing men that they restrain their eyes and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Surely, Allah is well aware of what they do.  And say to the believing women that they restrain their eyes and guard their private parts, and that they disclose not their natural and artificial beauty except that which is apparent thereof, and that they draw their head-coverings over their bosoms, and that they disclose not their beauty save to their husbands, or to their fathers, or the fathers of their husbands or their sons or the sons of their husbands or their brothers, or the sons of their brothers, or the sons of their sisters, or their women, or what their right hands possess, or such of male attendants as have no sexual appetite, or young children who have no knowledge of the hidden parts of women. And they strike not their feet so that what they hide of their ornaments may become known. And turn ye to Allah all together, O believers, that you may succeed. (Al Quran 24:31-32)

New York Rep. Anthony Weiner on Monday admitted sending sexually suggestive photographs to women online but said he doesn’t plan to resign from Congress because of the scandal.  “I panicked and said I was hacked,” said Mr. Weiner at the late afternoon news conference at a midtown Manhattan hotel.  The admission comes after a conservative website posted new photos of the Queens Democrat and another website claimed to have sexually explicit messages sent to a woman from a Facebook account.

Human sexual desire may be insatiable, the more we indulge in it the stronger it may grow, until it destroys us in one form or the other. Unbridled attempts at quenching the sexual thirst is like putting out a fire with gasoline, it only burns with stronger flames!

We should judge any set of teachings, be they secular or religious by the golden principle given to us by Jesus, may peace be upon him:

By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. (Matthew 7:16-20)

The detailed teachings mentioned in the Holy Quran about chastity are not matched by any other scripture. For details from the Holy Quran, see the book, the Philosophy of the Teachings of Islam:

“Do they seek a religion other than Allah’s, while to Him submits whosoever is in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly, and to Him shall they be returned?” (Al Quran 3:84)

  1. The following comment applies to sexual addiction in general only:

The trial of a Delaware pediatrician accused of molesting 103 of his patients began Tuesday, according to a spokesman for the state attorney general.

Earl Bradley, whose practice was in Lewes, Delaware, went into the trial facing 529 counts of rape, sexual exploitation of a child, unlawful sexual contact and other charges. Prosecutors filed an amended indictment on Tuesday condensing the charges against Bradley into 24 counts.
