Human rights activists call for an end to bloodshed in Syria

AMMAN – Human rights activists representing several NGOs gathered near the Syrian embassy in Amman on Monday calling for an end to the bloodshed in the neighbouring country.

The three dozen odd protesters, from the Islamic Action Front (IAF) human rights committee, the Arab Organisation for Human Rights (AOHR), Jordan Youth to Protect Syria and Jouthour issued a statement expressing solidarity with the Syrian people in their uprising against the regime.

“We can only express our support for the Syrian people in their uprising against repression and call for their freedom and an end to corruption,” said the statement, released during the protest.

“A regime that tends to kill hundreds of its people and put in place collective punishment such as cutting water supplies and electricity is a regime that has lost its legitimacy,” the statement added.
