ABHA: The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice Monday caught an Egyptian academician with a female university student at a restaurant in Abha, Asir province, and turned them over to the authorities concerned on charges of khulwa (illegal seclusion), police spokesman Maj. Abdullah bin Shaathan announced Tuesday. He said the case would be handed over to the Prosecution and Investigation Commission for further investigation.

He said the role of the police was to refer such cases to the relevant authorities without questioning the parties involved.

A Haia source said a flower bouquet and a golden ring were found with the couple, and added that at the time of arrest, the man said he wanted to marry the girl. “I loved her and I loved her style. She is a serious and an excellent student,” the source quoted the Egyptian academician as saying.

The source further said that the academician was supervising the girl’s thesis for her master’s. He said the academician was handed over to the east Abha police, and his academic reference was informed of the case.
