(ABOARD THE PAPAL PLANE) — Pope Francis has for the first time publicly acknowledged the scandal of priests and bishops sexually abusing nuns and says he is committed to doing more to fight the problem.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Francis noted that Pope Benedict XVI had taken action against a France-based order after some of its religious sisters had been reduced to “sexual slavery” at the hands of the priest who founded the order and other priests.

“Should we do something more? Yes. Is there the will? Yes. But it’s a path that we have already begun,” Francis said while returning home from the United Arab Emirates.

  1. Its good for pope Francis to acknowledge sexually abusing Nuns. Why these religious humans do not understand that NUNS are women and they need sex too. These Nuns can not stop themselves for long against nature. Allah has told us a news about these Nuns and Priests who did not observe it as it should have been observed. That is called” monasticism” Read Al-Quran 57:27—-sami

  2. I just watched a historical movie about Zwingli, the reformer of the Protestant Church in Zurich, Switzerland, 500 years ago. It seemed to have been ‘normal’ for the priests to have illegitimate children at that time too. No problem, because priests could ‘forgive each other’. And when will the Catholics honestly discuss the question of celibacy I wonder?
