April 1, 2018 marks the end of the Lenten season and marks the Easter holiday. While the commercialized version of Easter is marked by chocolate bunnies and Easter eggs, these symbols of new life have deep roots in the Christian faith.

Easter is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ (peace be upon him). Would Christianity be different if the mysteries surrounding the resurrection were challenged?

Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, proposed a different view on the death of Jesus (peace be upon him), centered upon the fact that he did not die on the cross, contrary to popular belief. These views are captured in his book, “Jesus in India,” which offers sound arguments that present an alternative belief surrounding Jesus’ death.

As Catholic school students well-versed in Biblical teachings, we always found it interesting to read John 19:33-34, which states: “But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.”
