Muslims fly flag for Britain at festival
The Union Jack was raised at a festival attended by more than 30,000 Muslims at a farm in Hampshire yesterday to affirm that loyalty to their country is a core part of their faith.
Those attending the Jalsa Salana gathering in Alton, which is sometimes described as the Muslim Glastonbury, were from the minority Ahmadi sect of Islam founded in India in the 19th century. They came to hear Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, their caliph, call for peace and denounce extremism. Members of Britain’s 30,000-strong Ahmadi community were joined by Muslims from around the world.
