International Muslim group calls for Mideast peace conference

(RNS) The largest gathering of Muslim leaders in the world kicks off a five-day conference that will call for a new peace process to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Other weighty issues at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation summit include combatting extremism within Muslim nations, countering Islamophobia in the rest of the world, and protecting the Rohingya — a group of Muslims suffering persecution in Myanmar.

Meeting in Istanbul from April 10-15, delegations from the OIC’s 57 member states intend to “focus on exceptionally critical circumstances, regionally and internationally,” said OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Madani. Founded in 1969, the OIC calls itself “the collective voice of the Muslim world” and holds its summits every three years.

More than 30 heads of state are expected to attend this week’s summit, including Turkish President Recep Erdogan, King Saud of Saudi Arabia, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

The group said a new international conference on the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians should take as its starting point United Nations resolutions on the conflict and the “Arab Peace Initiative.” Though Israel and the U.S. have decried U.N. resolutions on the conflict as unfair to Israel, the initiative, when first brokered by Saudi Arabia in 2002, drew some support from both Israeli and American government officials. More recently, some Israeli officials have said that  subsequent changes to the document now render it unacceptable.

Madani says the summit aims to create “a collective vision for the Muslim world over the next ten years” and called it “the only forum in which such a vision can practically be agreed on by heads of state and official delegations from across the entire Muslim world.”

  1. From observation that most of Muslim leader are hypocrisy .They obey some and they refuse the rest of Allah’s laws.

QS.2;85. But here you are, killing your own, and expelling a group of your own from their homes-conspiring against them in wrongdoing and hostility. And if they come to you as captives, you ransom them, although it was forbidden to you. Is it that you believe in part of the Scripture, and disbelieve in part? What is the reward for those among you who do that but humiliation in this life? And on the Day of Resurrection, they will be assigned to the most severe torment. God is not unaware of what you do

As long as Saudi and Iran do not obey Human Right and do not treat people equally, there is no a permanent peace. Human right is the core of peace. Human Right is Allah’s law, written in Bible and Al Quran QS 4;75,

Prophet Muhammad saw) promoted Human Right, 1400 year ago.

And why would you not fight in the cause of God, and the helpless men, and women, and children, cry out, “Our Lord, deliver us from this town whose people are oppressive, and appoint for us from Your Presence a Protector, and appoint for us from Your Presence a Victor.”

    Was Salam.
