Czech Republic: 8 killed plus shooter in restaurant shooting in Uhersky Brod

(CNN) A man armed with a gun killed eight people at a restaurant in the town of Uhersky Brod, in the eastern Czech Republic near Zlin, a Czech Interior Ministry spokesman said Tuesday.

“The shooter is also dead,” the spokesman said.

Interior Minister Milan Chovanec said the bloodshed wasn’t a terrorist attack, claiming it was carried out by a “crazy shooter” who was a local man in his 60s and had a permit to own guns.

Authorities haven’t named the shooter, nor have they given any indication of his motivation.

Reports suggest he was mentally unstable and may have called a Czech TV station’s crime line immediately before carrying out the attack.

“We have never seen anything like this before,” said Tomas Tuhy, the head of the Czech Republic’s national police. “This is a tragedy.”

  1. Czech Republic killer of 8 not called terrorist as he was not Muslim.

But, what if he was a closet Muslim or his father, mother, grand mother, grand father, aunt, uncle, third cousin, a long time friend or a neighbor were a Muslim?

  2. Terrorism is the use of violence for political or ideological aims. So it all depends on his ‘purpose’. With respect, many of the murderers who happen to be muslim are terrorists – they’re acting for political or ideological aims. Doesn’t make it any better or worse – murder is murder.

  3. But, usually, if they are non-Muslim we do not examine their purpose, we call them “crazy.” But, then “crazy” people have a purpose also.

On the other hand if they are Muslims, we do not examine, if they are “crazy” or not?

In the opinion of some Muslim experts, all Muslim terrorists are “crazy,” including all ISIS, for Islam does not suggest or promote violence, rather is a religion of peace, compassion and charity.

  4. I have to respectfully disagree. The criminal case and/or inquest’s job is to examine the purpose.

And how are we defining “crazy”? I’m fortunate enough to live in a a country where it’s not banded about in the way you suggest. Few murderers are found to be “criminally insane” – most are found to be responsible for their actions.
