Successful outing for first Keighley Community Through Unity Friendship Walk

A SMALL group of people enjoyed an eight-mile walk to help promote unity and friendship in Keighley.

Paul Skinner and his wife Elaine took part in the trek along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal alongside Aziz Hafiz of the Keighley Ahmadiyya Muslim Association (AMA Keighley) and Sue Kesic.

The group took a train from Keighley to Saltaire last Sunday then walked along the canal back to Keighley.

Mr Skinner, who set up the Keighley Community Through Unity Facebook page last year to encourage people from different backgrounds to get to know each other, said: “We were so lucky with the weather. It was cold – very cold with the wind in our faces – but the air was so clear that all the available views and sights were perfect.

“The Leeds to Liverpool Canal has great charm and the section from Saltaire to Bingley also shows off a beautiful broad section of the river Aire which the canal actually crosses by means of an aqueduct.”

He said he and his fellow walkers enjoyed lunch at the Three Rise locks before continuing on through Bingley and Riddlesden.

He added: “It was a great walk and friendships were made.”
