So, we’re coming back to discuss Jesus (pbuh) again.

Now this one prophet happens to be the central object of the prophetic sphere which categorizes almost three-quarters of world population into believers or disbelievers and henceforth into different religions.

…those who disbelieved in him are the Jews;
…those who believed him yet wrongly believe him to be God are the Christians;
…those who rightly believed him to be a prophet are called Muslims.

Yet, this is not the End.

Jesus (pbuh) is supposed to return as well, and so…

…there are those who accept him as a prophet and believe him dying of natural causes after completion of his mission. Yet these believe that the Messiah will return as Promised & Prophesied by Prophet Muhammad (saw)

And,

…there are others who accept him to be a prophet yet disbelieve in his death and wrongly believe him to be alive till today even after 2000 years of his birth!

These ‘others’ are certain Muslim who believe that the very same 2000 year old Jesus of Nazareth is alive, and he himself is to return with superhuman qualities and then…, you know – all those stories (Click to read them here Orthodox Muslims’s view & Expectations from the returning Jesus).

So now this section is for them.

And, as said above these believers happen to be Muslims, I’ll prove them the death of Jesus (Wafat-e-Maseeh) right from their very own “The Holy Qur’an” itself & also from Hadees-e-Nabwi (sayings of their prophet (saw)) himself. I will, additionally, be presenting views of great world renowned scholars as well.

It is obvious that, for us Muslims, the Holy Qur’an is an authority of the highest grade ………‘Surely conjecture avails naught (nothing) against truth.’ (10:37)

Quran-e-Majeed

Quran-e-Majeed

We have already cleared Jesus of all false charges which the Jews and the Christians put against him (If you haven’t seen it, see it all here: www.themuslimtimes.org/2014/07/religion/islam/the-truth-message).

Now allow me to clear Jesus of all charges against the Muslim allegations.

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem
[In The Name Of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Ever Merciful]

Muslims: There are three famous beliefs about the great Jesus (pbuh) or as we call him Isa (as) in the Islamic world of Muslims. They are:

Second: The traditional belief of the majority of Muslims masses is that Jesus was not put on the cross at all, and that someone else resembling Jesus was crucified in his place. Jesus, instead, is supposed to have been ‘raised’ to heaven or perhaps skies, body and soul.

Third: Few of the so-called orthodox Muslim clergy believe that Jesus was a great prophet from God (and a prophet can’t die an accursed death) so was taken away from the cross after being crucified and was shifted to the fourth (or perhaps fifth) heaven to be saved. And again, there are few groups of Muslims who believe that Jesus was taken away from the cross during the storm and was placed somewhere between the seven skies.

Wouldn’t it be too nonsensical to believe this?

So, these were the dirty charges brought against Jesus, the great prophet of Israel, peace be upon him;

The First (the correct one): These believe that Jesus did survive crucifixion: He was taken down ‘in time’ from the cross, was healed and had then migrated from country-to-country in search of the lost sheep of Israel (as was his mission) and later after completion of his mission, died in Srinagar, in the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir.

Return of Jesus was prophesied — and — signs that would signify his coming were foretold which are believed by all 73 sections of Muslims. True to the prophecies the re-advent of Jesus had happened and… we will discuss this topic in detail in the later part of this book ‘The Truth Message’; let’s discuss the second and third views now.

Death of Jesus Proved by Quran-e-Majeed for my Muslim family:

Muslims, Assalam’alaikum Warahmatullah-e-Wabarakatuhu,

How’re you doing?

Insha’Allah you’re going to be more than fine than you are now by the end of this book;
I’m doing spectacular, by the way, Al’humdulillah! Never been better.

All praise belongs to Allah, Who has sent down the Book to His servant, free from all distortion, full of truth and guidance, that it may give warning of a grievous chastisement proceeding from Him, and that it may give the believers who work righteousness the glad tidings that they shall have a good reward which they shall enjoy forever. (Ch.18:Vs.2-3)

Allah says in The Holy Quran:

‘O Jesus, I will cause thee to die a natural death and will raise thee to Myself, and will clear thee from the charges of those who disbelieve…’

The verse from the Quran above points out that there was to be a time when God would clear Jesus of these charges. ‘This Is That Time’.

The Verse continues…

…, and will place those who follow thee above those who disbelieve, until the Day of Resurrection; then to Me shall be your return, and I will judge between you concerning that wherein you differ. (Ch. 3:56)

For my Christian cousins I have already established the innocence & well-succeeded life of The Holy Prophet Jesus from The Holy Bible, now let me prove the same before my beloved Muslim family from The Holy Quran.

I put before you the evidence of our Holy Prophet, as well as the Holy Quran (the words of Allah) which testify that the charges brought against Jesus (on whom be peace) are all baseless. The truth that I put before you today was discovered and proclaimed approximately 1400 years ago with the advent of His Holiness (saw) himself.

Death of Jesus proved from the Holy Quran:

Bismillah-hir-Rahman-nirRaheem
[In the name of ALLAH, the most Gracious, the Merciful]

At the outset, I’d clearly like to put down that:

There is not a single verse in the Holy Quran where it is written that Jesus (as) is alive today.

There is not a single verse in the Holy Quran where it is written that Jesus Christ went up to some skies or Heaven.

Let alone Jesus, there is no mention of any physical ascension of any living prophet.

No hadith (sayings of Prophet Mohammad (saw)) testifies the physical ascension of Jesus (as) – Not even a single!

So depending on The Holy Quran & The Hadees I reject the belief that Jesus Christ went into space to escape crucifixion or that he is alive up there today.

First: A Warning to the disbelievers of Truth:

O People of the Book! Exceed not the limits in your religion and say not of Allah anything but the truth. Verily, the Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, was only a Messenger of Allah, and a fulfillment of His word which He sent down to Mary, and a mercy from Him. (Ch.4: V.172)

As said before: It is obvious that for us Muslims the Holy Qur’an is an authority of the highest grade – it is a confirmed word, so let me first start with this majestic book itself where ALLAH speaks – None in the entire universe has the authority to deny it.

The Quran is quite clear that Hadhrat Jesus (as) has passed away. Let me present to you the specific verses right from Quran-e-Paak, which prove my point – The Truth: I repeat:

…‘Surely conjecture avails naught (nothing) against truth.’ (10:37)

I. Qur’an confirms death of Jesus:

1. Allah says in The Holy Quran, 3:145:

And Muhammad is but a messenger. Verily all Messengers have passed away before him.

THIS AAYAT (verse) PROVES IT PERFECTLY THAT ISA IBN MARYAM HAS DIED AND LEAVES NO ROOM FOR ANY CONFUSION

Read it again: “Verily all Messengers have passed away before him”.

Every Muslim (or for that matter every Jew & Christian) knows full well that Hazrath Isa (as) had come before Hazrath Muhammad (saw) and when Allah himself is saying in Qur’an that “…all Messengers have passed away before him“… who are we to reject or reconstruct the sentence?

Jesus (as) had come approximately 600 years before Mohammad (saw). Now, if you believe that the Messiah Jesus is still alive (2000 years later) then God’s statement in the Holy Quran should be wrong, agreed?

I wonder, what’s wrong with the Muslims of today who consider the Mullah to be correct and agree with his false views and reject the Truth recorded in the Quran, in the words of Allah, the almighty.

Wake up, Muslims!

2. Allah says again in reference to death of Messiah:

“The Messiah, son of Mary, was only a Messenger; surely Messengers like unto him had passed away before him. And his mother was a truthful woman. They both used to eat food. See how WE explain the Signs for their good, and see how they are turned away.” (The Holy Quran, 5:76)

3. In Surah Al-Anbiya’ in Qur’an Allah says:

[21:9] And We did not give them bodies that ate no food, nor were they to live for ever.

Here ‘them’ & ‘they’ specifically refers to Messengers.

Allah has not given them a body that ‘ate no food’ (in this world) and now, even if we nonsensically assume that Jesus is up above since 2000 years without food, we cannot expect him to be alive.

God, the knower of Past, Present and Future knew full well that Muslim Clerics (Mullahs) of later time will assign nonsense stuff to Jesus, the Son of Mary (pbuh), so he already provided us with knowledge through the Verses of the Holy Quran, Subhan’Allah!

[33:63] Such has been the way of Allah in the case of those who passed away before, and thou wilt never find a change in the way of Allah.

Surely we belong to Allah and to Him shall we return [2:157]

4. Proving the death of Jesus again, Allah says this (addressing the Prophet Muhammad (saw)):

WE granted not everlasting life to any mortal before thee. If thou shouldst die, shall they live here for ever? (The Holy Quran, 21:35)

God loves the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of God be on him) more than He ever loved anyone.

He (Muhammad) was the purpose for all creation as one of the most famous aHadith says:

Had I not created thee I would have created neither heaven nor earth.”

Hence, if any man deserved to remain alive and ascend to heaven, it was our Holy Prophet (saw). If he has died in the usual human way, other prophets definitely must have died in the same way.

Any arguments, there?

Prophet Mohammad Mustafa (May Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon Him) is honored as the Nabi-e-Kareem (Chief of Prophets), Khatamul Ambiya (Leader of the elect), Khatamul Mursileen, (Pride of the Prophets), the Siraj-ul-Muneer, the Rahmatul-Lil-Alameen (Mercy for all Mankind), and by many other titles too which describe his status and praise.

And as our beloved Prophet’s prophethood excelled all matters in every term he is called the ‘Seal of Prophets’ (Khataman Nabiyyeen). Praise of the Holy Prophet (saw) is in fact beyond description.

NOW Does anybody thinks that [Astagfirullah Astagfirullah Astagfirullah] Jesus is mightier than the Holy Prophet Mohammad Mustafa (saw)? Astaghfirullah!

5. Surah Al-Ma’idah: An aayat (Verse) in this Surah proves it perfectly that Isa Ibn Maryam, Jesus, Son of Mary, had died and leaves NO ROOM for any confusion. Let us see:

“… God will say, “O Jesus, son of Mary: Didst thou say to people: Take me and my mother for two gods beside Allah? – And he will answer, “Holy art Thou, I could never say that to which I had no right. If I had said it, Thou wouldst have surely known it. Thou knowest what is in my mind, and I know not what is in Thy mind. It is only Thou who art the Knower of hidden things. (The Holy Quran, 5:117)

I said nothing to them except that which Thou didst command me: Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. I was a witness over them as long as I remained among them, but since Thou didst cause me to die, Thou hast been the Watcher over them, and Thou art Witness over all things.” (The Holy Quran, 5:118)

Quran confirms the death of Jesus here: ‘Tawaffi’ means capturing of the soul and leaving of the body (death).

So, this clearly confirms that ‘Jesus has died’;

Surely we belong to Allah and to Him shall we return [Al-Baqarah 2:157]

O Muslims! Do you still believe Jesus is alive and sitting in the 5th sky?

Disbelievers beware! Surah Al’ Yunus declares:

[10:101] And He causes His wrath descend on those who will not use their reason (judgment).

[4:160] And there is none among the People of the Book but will continue to believe in it before his death; and on the Day of Resurrection, he (Jesus) shall be a witness against them –

6. Allah says to Jesus: I will cause you to die.

[3:55] And Jesus’s enemies planned, and Allah also planned; and Allah is the Best of planners.

…“When Allah said, ‘O Jesus, I will cause thee to die a natural death and will raise thee to Myself, and will clear thee from the charges of those who disbelieve, and will exalt those who follow thee above those who disbelieve, until the Day of Resurrection; then to Me shall be your return, and I will judge between you concerning that wherein you differ.” (Quran Ch.3:V56)

Jesus was FIRST caused to DIE and then was RAISED towards Heaven.

The words `cause thee to die‘ comes first and then comes `raise thee to myself‘.

We must observe the ordinary rules of language.
What is mentioned first, must take place first.

We have no right to change the order of the words of The Holy Quran.

But maybe certain Ulema think that they know better than Allah. Because they believe that ‘raising to God’ should have been earlier and ‘death’ next.

But dear Ulemas! Let me break this truth to you: God is Wise beyond description.

He knows best how ideas should be expressed. In His speech, there is no error, no deviation from the correct word order. He is our Creator and we are His creatures. We dare not find errors in His speech. We are ignorant and He is All-Knowing. How can we point to faults in His speech?

But unfortunately many Ulema seem to think there could be errors in the speech of God but not in their understanding of it, Astaghfirullah!

Anyways, coming back to the verse we see that it clearly indicates that Hadhrat Jesus (as) was to die and then and only then would he be raised to Allah though with some dirty charges by those who disbelieve. However there’s also a promise in another verse to ‘clear him of all charges’.

The word used is mutawaffi, derived from tawaffa which means to take away the soul, i.e, death.

So, in this verse also ‘Tawaffi’ means capturing of the soul and leaving of the body (death). Zamakhshari (467-538 A.H), an Arab linguist of great repute explains, “Mutawaffika means, I will protect you from being killed by the people and will grant you full lease of life ordained for you, and will cause you to die a natural death not being killed (Kashshaf).” Scholars and commentators like Hazrat Ibn Abbas, Imam Malik, Imam Bukhari, Imam ibn Hazm, Imam ibn Qayyin, Qatadah, Wahhab and others are of the same view.

Dear Muslims: Please Note that the same word Tawaffa, has been used in other 23 places in the Quran too to indicate death.

For example at [2:235]:

“…and those of you who die (yatawaffou-na) and leave wives behind, these wives shall wait concerning themselves for four months and ten days.”

The Promised Messiah challenges: Tawaffi means ‘Capture of Soul & Death (of the physical body)’.

He challenges that none can prove this wrong from any verse of The Quran or any sayings of The Prophet Mohammad (saw).

Regrettable is the fact that with mere references to ‘Al’haad’ and ‘Tehreef’, few of the Muslims have understood the meaning of ‘Tawaffaitani’as ‘Raffatani’ and didn’t care that these go exactly against the Quran.

Tawaffi is used not only in Quran-e-Kareem but also occurs in the Sayings of Prophet Mohammad (saw).

Another important word Rafaa’ is used which only means ‘exaltation of status’ and NOT a physical ascension – Hadhrat Jesus (as) was exalted (or raised) in his status in the view / opinion of God.

Explanation:

The word Rafa’a has never been used in the entire Holy Quran nor in the Traditions of the Holy Prophet (saw) as a connotation of physical ascension to skies as is clear from the following references:

  1. All the Muslims are aware of the fact that there occurs the word Warfa’anee (and exalt me in ranks) in salaat/Namaaz between two Sajdas (prostrations)… Now tell me:

(a) Does that mean that you are supplicating for physical ascension to some skies? Or

(b) Praying to the Lord that: O lord! I have prostrated one time on this land and want to prostate the second time (sajdah) in the sky.

Question: Was ever there any worshiper who asked for either of these? Did you ever?

Nay, you pray for exaltation in Ranks, not for ascensions to the skies.

Agreed?

Likewise see: 24:37; 80:14-15; 58:12

  1. Wa Rafa’anaaho Makaanan Aliyyaa–“And We exalted him (Hadhrat IdrisAS) to lofty station.” (19:58)

So if Prophet Idris is mentioned as exalted (like in case of Jesus), should we also believe that even Prophet Idris is alive above? So now it is to be decided if he is to die above in the skies or is he going to return back to earth and then die because it is mandatory for every person to die, no matter if he is a prophet or if he is not as Allah says in [21:36]:

Every soul shall taste of death.

  1. In the Commentary of the Holy Quran known as Tafseer Saafi under the verse Maa Muhammadun Illa Rasool Qad Khalat Min Qablihir Rusul (3:145) the demise of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of God be on him) has been mentioned in he following words: Hatta Idha Da’a Allaho Nabiyyahoo Wa Rafa’a Hoo Ilaihi–“Until when Allah called His Prophet and exalted him to Himself.”

Now here are words Rafa’a Hoo Ilaihi used for the Holy Prophet (saw) had never been interpreted as his corporal ascension to heaven.

Is it not strange and outright blasphemy to interpret the word Rafa’a for the Holy Prophet (saw) as exaltation of his ranks, and for Jesus (as) as his physical ascension to sky?

Think about it please dear Muslims.

7. The Crucifixion

The verse that refers to the crucifixion is Surah Al’Nisa 4:158,159:

“And for their saying, We did slay the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah; whereas they slew him not, nor did they bring about his death upon the cross, but he was made to appear to them like one crucified; and those who differ therein are certainly in a state of doubt about it; they have no certain knowledge thereof, but pursue only a conjecture; and they did not arrive at a certainty concerning it. On the contrary, Allah exalted him to himself. And Allah is Mighty, Wise.”

Ah! Big one. Let’s break it into single sentences to understand clearly, shall we?

(i) And for their saying, We did slay the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah whereas they slew him not, nor did they bring about his death upon the cross:

Refers to the argument of the Jews that they killed Jesus (as) by Crucifixion – In the first part of this book ‘The Truth Message’ I have cleared this point completely that the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, never died on the Cross instead survived it to complete his mission.

The Quran rejects the slaying of Prophet Jesus (as) in any form, including killing or by nailing to the cross.

Nothing in the verse suggests Hadhrat Jesus (as) was NOT nailed to the cross: He was definitely nailed; the verse only denies Jesus’ DEATH by nailing to the cross.

For Arabic explanations…

‘Ma Salabu-hu’ means, they did not cause his death on the cross.

‘Salab’ being a well-known manner of killing.

They say ‘Salaba al-Lissa’, i.e., he put the thief to death by putting him on the cross. The verse does not deny the fact of Jesus being nailed to the cross but denies his having died on it.

The words “Shubbi-ha la hum” means ” Jesus was made to appear to the Jews like one crucified”; or the matter of the death of Jesus became obscure or dubious to them.” The question arises, who is the person who was made to appear “like one crucified.” Clearly it was Hadhrat Jesus (as) whom the Jews tried to crucify or slay. The theory invented by some Muslim commentators that someone else was made to look like Hadhrat Jesus (as) and was then crucified in his place, is simply absurd. The context of the verse cannot be twisted to make room for someone else. No one else is mentioned. Besides, the belief that God made someone else, an innocent person, look like Hadhrat Jesus (as), and die in his place, makes God look very cruel – No way! And so:

Shubbiha ‘alaihi al-Amru’ means, the matter was rendered confused, obscure or dubious to him (Lane).

And the expression, ‘Ma Qatalu-hu yaqinan’, means,
(1) they did not kill him for certain;
(2) they did not convert it (their conjecture) into certainty, i.e, their knowledge about the death of Jesus on the cross was not certain.

In this case the pronoun ‘hu’ in ‘Qatalu-hu’ would refer to the noun Zann (conjecture).

The Arabs say ‘Qatala al-Shai’a Khurban, i.e he acquired full and certain knowledge of the thing as to dispel all possibility of doubt about it. (Lane, Lisan & Mufradat).

So the Quran is clear that Hadhrat Jesus (as) ‘was made to appear to them (Jews) like one crucified (to death)’;

‘they (Jews) have no certain knowledge thereof, but pursue only a conjecture; and they did not arrive at a certainty concerning it. The Jews were left confused on this point, they were not certain about the ‘death of Jesus’. Jesus was however, not killed, but was rescued.

‘On the contrary, Allah exalted him to himself. And Allah is Mighty, Wise.

Here the word Rafaa’ is used which only means ‘exaltation of status’ and not a physical ascension. No mention of a sky or heaven with number is mentioned; factually, Hadhrat Jesus (as) was exalted (or raised) in his status in the view / opinion / judgment / eyes of Allah.

8. Humans, as Allah says in the Quran, must live and die in the physical universe.

The notion that Hadhrat Jesus (as) floated into the sky towards God is an Un-Quranic concept.

Before going into the specific verses which refutes this popular belief, it should be noted that going over to Skies or Heaven happens in a spiritual state only which our souls experience AFTER death or in Divine Dreams / Visions; Our dead bodies remain dug in the earth. And again, Heaven or Skies are not physical locations beyond the stratosphere… by climbing Mount Everest you do not come closer to God!

Oh well, coming back to our topic, Qur’an says about Jesus (or for that matter any human):

“And for you there is an abode on the earth and a provision for a time, He said, therein shall you live and therein shall you die and therefrom shall you be brought forth.” (Ch. 7:V. 25-26)

And the Quran declared: Alam Najalil Arza Kifaatan Ahya’an Wa Amwaatan–“[77:26]

Have We not made the earth so as to hold [77:27] The living and the dead?

So you see both the living & the dead are to remain on the earth only. Was this earth not sufficient enough for Jesus then?

FYI: Only souls have access to the Heavens and this happens only after Death or in Divine Dreams.

9. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) challenged:

“We will not believe except if you (o Muhammad) ascend to Heaven.
And we will not believe in your ascent unless you bring to us from Heaven a Book that we can read.”
 (17:94)

On one occasion the enemies of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, challenged him that they will not believe in him unless he “ascend up into heaven” and “send down to us a Book.” (17:94) The Holy Prophet (saw) replied: “Holy is my Lord! I am but a mortal sent as a messenger.” (17:94)

In reply to this challenge, God did not empower the Holy Prophet (saw) to show the miracle which the Holy Prophet’s (SAW) deniers asked him to show. Instead, God made the Prophet say: “Holy is my Lord! I am not but a man sent as Messenger.” (17:94)

If any human being was to be able to go to heaven with his physical body then it would have been our beloved holy prophet Muhammad (saw), the greatest of all prophets. But the verses above indicate that since he is but a man, it is not possible. Knowing this, how can we Muslims think that Jesus (as) could be ascended to heaven at his request, yet our Beloved founder Hazrath Muhammad (saw) was made to make excuses!!!

How could any Muslim ever think that while Holy Prophet (saw) died in the normal way and buried here in this earth, and yet Hadhrat Jesus (as) could go to Heaven and remain alive for these two thousand years?

So again comes the question: Do the Muslim clergy believe that Jesus held the Supreme (God forbid)  status but not His Holiness Prophet Mohammad Mustafa (May Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon Him)? because these very Muslim clergy believes that Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) can die, but Jesus cannot!!!

You decide.

The Holy Quran, 48:24 says: Such has ever been the law of ALLAH; and thou shalt not find any change in the law of ALLAH.

This statement clearly puts down that every human being comes under the one rule of life and death, and there is no special consideration for anybody. Several verses say there is no inconsistency in the law of nature and law of Allah (67:3-4; 17:78; 30:31; 33:63; 35:44; 48:24)

This is put down more properly in the below verse.

[21:36] Every soul shall taste of death;

Thus the Prophets, like all humans, lived and died on the earth. None could ascend to heavens physically including our Saviour and Master, The Holy Prophet Mohammad (saw) as all Qur’anic laws applied to him too!

10.

“Jesus said, I am a servant of Allah. He has given me the Book and has made me a prophet. And He has made me blessed wheresoever I may be and has enjoined upon me prayer and alms-giving so long as I live. And, He has made me dutiful towards my mother, and He has not made me arrogant and graceless. And, peace was on me the day I was born, and peace there shall be on the day I shall die, and the day I shall be raised up to life again.” (The Holy Quran, 19:31-34)

Peace be upon you always, my dear prophet.

Well, let’s break up the verse into small sentences to understand

[19:32] ‘And He has made me blessed wheresoever I may be, and has enjoined upon me Prayer and almsgiving so long as I live;

Jesus is enjoined to Pray and give alms as long as he lives and the so-called orthodox Muslims Mullah preach that Jesus, even after 2000 years since his birth, is alive today.

Let’s put these two things as together: So Jesus today should be offering prayers somewhere in the skies above (understandable) and He also must be giving alms to people there (oh!). Now comes the question: Are there any people in the skies too? Who is it that he is giving alms to? I’m not sure if there are any people up there with him in the skies, but as alms giving is made mandatory upon him, so he surely must be throwing alms from there to his people over here. Did you ever get anything right out of the sky?

I-never-got! :-

Coming back to point: Jesus was a great prophet and obedient prophet so would do everything enjoined to him by the Lord. And all orders came to end with his death, so expectations of alms are dismissed, sorry!

[19:34] ‘And peace was on me the day I was born, and peace there will be on me the day I shall die, and the day I shall be raised up to life again.’

Peace be upon the whole life of Jesus.

Here we see greetings of peace extended to Jesus three times: At the time of his birth, the day on which he dies and the day when he shall be raised, naturally in the Hereafter. No mention is made of the time when he would migrate from this planet to the skies… why is it?

Rafa & Nazul are not mentioned at all! Are these not important in the eyes of the Almighty? These are the rarest of attributes not given to any human, isn’t it? Or does it mean that there no peace to him when he is up there till the time he comes down? I have no answers; you take the lead please, thank you.

If you ask me, I’d say, this thought of placing him in the 4th of 5th sky or temporarily in heaven never occurred to the Lord and so he didn’t quite require mentioning them anywhere in his book! This unislamic concept is an Idiotic human invention!!!

11.

[22:6] O people, if you are in doubt concerning the Resurrection, then consider that We have indeed created you from dust… … And We cause what We will to remain in the wombs for an appointed term; then We bring you forth as babes; then We rear you that you may attain to your age of full strength. And there are some of you who are caused to die prematurely, and there are others among you who are driven to the worst part of life with the result that they know nothing after having had knowledge. And thou seest the earth lifeless, but when We send down water thereon, it stirs and swells, and grows every kind of beauteous vegetation.

You will agree that, ‘driven to the worst part of life with the result that they know nothing after having had knowledge’ relates to the old age of Man and so now we must think that if Jesus is supposed to be 2000+ years of age, is he strong enough to come back and complete his ‘supposed’ mission?

In summary, according to the Quran, humans live and die in the physical universe.

Prophets are human beings and so like other all humans, are subject to hunger, pain, death, etc.

The Quran is clear that Hadhrat Jesus (as) was a human being like the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw). To say that Hadhrat Jesus (as) is alive today, 2000 years after he was born, is to make him more than a human. The Laws of God do not change. In fact, the Quran makes a general statement: “But you will never find any change in the way of Allah, nor will you find any alteration in the way of Allah.” (35:44)

12.

[36:69] And to him whom We grant long life — We revert him to a weak condition of creation. Will they not then understand?

Now we know that to whomever Allah grants a long life, he has to get weak with time and now if we suppose as Jesus (as) is alive and more than 2000 years old, what should we expect from Jesus? God himself refers to the disbelievers here, when he says, ‘Will they not then understand?’

13.

The below aayat (verse) confirms our view:

[30:55] It is Allah Who created you in a state of weakness, and after weakness gave strength; then, after strength, caused weakness and old age.

The first state of weakness in infancy;
strength refers to adult age and…
weakness again is old age.

The Holy Quran then states:

[23:16] Then after that you must surely die.

Laws of Nature apply to all who are born in this earth, then why do we eliminate Jesus from this and apply some new law which was neither recorded in the Book of Allah nor was told by the Holy Prophet Mohammad (saw)?

14.

[Ch.25:21] And we did not send any Messenger before thee but surely they ate food and walked in the streets. And We made some of you a trial for others to see whether you are steadfast. And thy Lord is All-Seeing.

Are we not sensible enough yet to understand this simple thing? Not the wise, but the mad Mullah has made us believe in this stupid tale of Jesus (as)!

I say:

[30:41] It is Allah Who has created you, and then He has provided for you; then He will cause you to die, and then He will bring you to life…… Glorified be He and exalted above that which they associate with Him.

Four stages of Human life are set down by the Lord of the world, how is it then we have created a fifth specifically for Jesus, whereby he is taken away to the skies alive? Was any other prophet ever flew to the sky alive? And even if certain paranormal event is to be attached to anybody, Quran would specifically have record it. But we find no reference of Jesus flying to fifth sky or about his temporary ascent to heaven in the Quran.

15.

[55:27] All that is on it (earth) will pass away.

Then how can we assume that Jesus did not pass away even after 2000 years of life?

[4:79] Wheresoever you may be, death will overtake you, even if you be in strongly built towers. ………What has happened to these people that they come not near understanding anything?

This means that if Jesus was to ascend to the skies also, he would have to face death, there’s no escape.

Allah himself refers to the disbelievers of truth saying:

What has happened to these people that they come not near understanding anything?

AND, as expected, Jesus would never come flying from the skies, b’cuz God himself says in the Quran at [6:131]:

‘…Did not Messengers come to you from among yourselves..’?

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Only this verse suits to the disbelievers of today [Al-Furqan, Vs. 31]:

‘O my Lord, my people indeed treated this Quran as a thing abandoned / to be discarded.’

Hadees (Sayings of the Holy Prophet):

1. Hadees-e-Nabwi (saw) confirms death of Jesus:

In Bukhari, it is recorded that after the death of Hadhrat Muhammad (saw), some of the companions, among them Hadhrat Umar ibn al-Khattab (ra), doubted he was really dead. However, Hadhrat Abu Bakr (ra), ascended to the pulpit in the Mosque and recited the Quranic verse: Muhammad is only a Messenger. All Messengers before him have passed away. (3:145)

In this verse of the Holy Quran the passing away of all the Messengers who came before the Holy Prophet (saw) has been pronounced. Had there been any prophet before Muhammad who didn’t die or had ascended to heaven ALIVE, it should have been mentioned by God. Instead we find the specific mention of passing away of Jesus mentioned in 5:76 wherein Allah says:

“The Messiah, son of Mary, was only a Messenger; surely Messengers like unto him had indeed passed away ….”

Coming back to the story:

After the short speech and recitation of this verse by Abu Bakr (ra) the companions realized that indeed the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) had passed away. NO ONE OBJECTED THAT HADHRAT Jesus (as) OR ANY OTHER PROPHET HAD NOT DIED. Now, if the companions present on this occasion thought that Hadhrat Jesus (as) had been alive in Heaven for 600 years, they would have stood up and pointed out to Hadhrat Abu Bakr (ra), that it was wrong to say that all the earlier prophets had died. But none did!

Everyone Accepted And thus Confirmed The Death Of All Previous Prophets.

This Was The First Ijma Or Consensus Of The Muslim Community.

The family of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) also agreed on the death of Hadhrat Jesus (as).

It is recorded in Majma-al-Bahar that, according to Imam Malik, Jesus died in the natural way.

Again there’s this another saying of the Holy Prophet himself:

“If Jesus and Moses had been alive, they would have had no choice but to follow me.” (Kathir vol II, p 245 and al yawaqit wal Jawahir, part 2, page 24; Fath al-Bayan, vol. 2, p. 246; Tafsir Ibn Kathir, under verse 81 of Al Imran, Zurqani, Vol. VI, p. 54, Tibrani Kabeer).

How many times have we not heard / read this? And still you disbelieve our very own beloved prophet!

The Holy Prophet’s words are significant and clear.

If, says he, Moses and Jesus were alive. This ‘if’ means that the two are not alive. Moses is not alive, nor is Jesus. This is an important declaration by the Holy Prophet’s bearing on the subject.

After hearing this declaration, no true follower of the Prophet can think that Jesus is alive in Heaven, because, if Jesus is alive, this declaration of the Holy Prophet turns out to be false, Astaghfirullah!

In short, the Holy Quran, the Traditions, the consensus of opinion among the Companions and the family of the Holy Prophet, and the opinions of the doctors of Islam all support belief in the death of Jesus. All of them teach that Jesus died like all mortals. All these and scholars (Sahaba of the prophet (saw), Imams, Sunni (Deobandi, Brelvi, Sufi), Shia) can not be wrong all at once. And more than that if Holy Prophet (saw) himself has decided the issue of of Jesus then no Muslim can argue with that.

Now are the Mullahs of today greater than Allah, Rasool Allah & all his companions combined??

Can we reject truth established in Qur’an & Hadees and and believe in the lies of a Mad Mullah?

O Muslims! Do you hold the Mullah in the greatest ever possible regards? Astaghfirullah!

Choose whom you wish to follow.

I recommend: Stop worshiping the Mullah and Start worshiping Allah… this is better for you, if only you knew.

1. Jesus, the travelling Prophet died at the age of 120 years.

Jesus was crucified when he was 33 years of age. As we’ve seen from Bible, historical evidences, Scientific records & present available proofs that Jesus had survived crucifixion and had migrated. His migration is mentioned in the verse 23:51 of the Holy Quran:

[23:51] And We made the son of Mary and his mother a Sign, and gave them refuge on an elevated land of green valleys and springs of running water.

Wow! Green valleys and springs of running water… …Kashmir again, my paradise!

Well, coming back to concepts, there are several Hadits which proved that Jesus (as) had died at 120 years of age.

  1. Hazrat Aishah, God be pleased with her, relates from the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw):
    “Jesus, son of Mary, lived to the age of 120 years.” (Hujaj al-Kirama, p. 428)
  1. During his last illness, the Holy Prophet (saw) said to his daughter Hadhrat Fatima (ra):

“Once in every year, Gabriel recited the Quran to me. This year he recited twice. He also told me that every succeeding prophet has lived to half the age of his predecessor. He told me that Jesus, son of Mary, lived to 120 years. Therefore, I think, I may live to about 60 years.” (Mawahib-ud-Duniya by Qastalani, Vol. I, p. 42, Kanzul Ummal Vol. 6, p. 160)

The Holy Prophet does not say anything on his Own, but reports what he received from Gabriel the angel of revelation. The important part of the statement is that Jesus lived to a hundred and twenty years. According to the New Testament records, Jesus was about thirty-two or thirty-three years old when the event of the Cross took place and Jesus ‘ascended’ to Heaven. If Jesus really did ‘ascend’, his age up to the time of the Holy Prophet comes to about six hundred years, not a hundred and twenty. If what the Holy Prophet received from Gabriel is true, the Holy Prophet should have lived for at least three hundred years. But he lived only for sixty-three years…. SO will now the Mullahs will stand to contest that Mohammad (saw) lived for 300 years? Or if you think Jesus is still alive up in the skies, so naturally Mohammad (saw) should be alive too counting by half his age of life, isn’t it?

Kanz-ul-Ummal (Vol. 2) which is a comprehensive Book of Hadith, has on page 34 a Hadith from Abu Huraira:

God directed Jesus (on whom be peace) ‘O Jesus! Move from one place to another’ — go from one country to another lest thou shouldst be recognised and persecuted.

Again, in the same Book, on the report of Jabar, there is the Hadith Jesus always used to travel; he went from one country to another, and at nightfall wherever he was he used to eat the vegetation of the jungle and to drink pure water.

Again, in the same book, there is a report from Abdullah bin Umar:

The Holy Prophet declared that the most favoured in the sight of God are the poor. Asked, what was meant by the poor? Were they the people who, like Jesus the Messiah, fled from their country with their faith?

So we see how people refer to Jesus as example to mention travelling through countries.

Almost all the sects of Islam believe that Jesus had two unique things about him — things which are not to be found together in any other prophet, namely:

(1) He lived to a full old age, i.e., to 120 years;

(2) He traveled in many parts of the world and was therefore called the ‘travelling prophet’.

So, by all the above statements it becomes evident that Jesus did travel a lot and later died when he was 120 years of age (full-age). Now you sit down and think if he had been raised to the skies when only 33 years-how could he have travel so much within those limited 33 years at the time when there where no Airplanes or Cruises available! Or do you think he Disapparated like Dumbledore does in the Harry Potter series? Funny! Ha ha

Well, honestly people! We’re discussing a serious story.

  1. Prophet Jesus Has Died: The Hadith

The fact that Jesus (peace be upon him) is dead is clearly mentioned in the sayings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

In Bukhari, it is reported that in the spiritual event known as the Miraj, the Holy Prophet (saw) saw Hadhrat Yahya(as) and Hadhrat Jesus (as) & others in heaven. If Hadhrat Yahya (as) is dead, then Hadhrat Jesus (as) is dead as well, because the dead do not keep company with the living. (I will give a detailed description to this event later)

Abul Hasan Ali Hajwairi, popularly known as Data Ganj Bakhsh, writes:

“The Messenger of God said that, on the night of the Mi‘raj, he saw Adam, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Jesus and Abraham, in the heavens. Assuredly it was their souls.” (Kashf al-Mahjub, Chapter al-Kalam fir-ruh, p. 204).

“Adam is in the first heaven … Joseph is in the second heaven, and his cousins Yahya (John the Baptist) and Jesus are in the third heaven, and Idris is in the fourth heaven.” (Kanz al-Ummal, vol. vi, p. 120)

The above Hadith is corroborated by another that tells us that in the Mi‘raj vision the Holy Prophet met the spirits of all the previous prophets (see Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Urdu ed. published in Karachi, vol. iii, p. 18). And we have already concluded that only souls can reach heaven, no physical bodies.

~~~***~~~
Come to think of it!
Even after providing you with so many proofs from The Holy Bible, The Holy Qur’an, The Hadith and even from available historical evidences… if you still think all my proofs fail to prove death of Jesus, then perhaps all of us should believe that Jesus never died (I agree) and nor did any of the previous prophets either (agree with me now)! Literally, because we have so many proofs proving death of Jesus and yet we do not want to accept it… then in this case, why should we accept that any other prophet died at all?
No other prophet’s death is so widely and detailed-ly discussed as His Holiness Prophet Jesus’ and yet we do not believe, so in this case, as there’s not much information available about death of Prophet Adam (pbuh), Prophet Noah (pbuh), Prophet Moses (pbuh), Prophet Joseph (pbuh), Prophet Issac (pbuh), Prophet Abraham (pbuh), Prophet Mohammad (saw) & lets include all the 1,24,000 prophets and believe that all of them are alive… lets believe that all are alive… why not, why not?
Any arguments there?!!!!
Well, yeah. They all are alive, not physically but spiritually because their names are preserved in our Holy Books and their love in our hearts. We love them and we follow their models in our life and we want to be righteous like them.
But Physically – They’re All Dead.
And if you guys cannot believe in the Qur’an-e-Majeed, the word of Allah AND in the sayings of His Holiness Prophet Mohammad (saw) – our Master & Saviour AND the consensus of opinion among the Companions and the family of the Holy Prophet himself, AND the opinions of the wise-Scholars of Islam THAT Isa ibn Maryam (as) is dead, then I’m afraid… you’re not a true Muslim because a true Muslim will believe in all of the above.
But like I said above:
Perhaps you prefer the Mullahs. For you these Mullahs are the highest authority!
You reject truth from Allah and believe in the lies of a Mullah?
Choose whom you wish to follow dear Muslims.
I just recommend: Stop being the Slave of Mullah – Start being the Slave of Allah… this is better for you, if only you knew.
[3:63] This certainly is the true account…
[3:64] But if they turn away, then remember that Allah fully knows the mischief-makers.
| May God help you dear reader with His special help in understanding these divine concepts |
Meaning of nazul (descent)?
Let’s learn: The fact of the matter is that nearly everybody has been misled by the word NAZOOL in the Tradition.
Literally it means descent therefore most people have been misled into thinking that the Messiah Jesus will descend from the skies flying.
However, it is quite wrong to think that the word nazul always means descent from an eminence.
The word “descent” only points to how important, significant and far-reaching the thing is which is to descend. It tells us that the thing to descend is to be the instrument of the Majesty and Power of God. Such things are said to descend from God to a people. This meaning of descent (sending down) is in conformity with usage sanctioned by the Holy Quran in several passages. Thus:
“Then Allah sent down His peace upon His messenger and upon the believers.” (Al-Tauba : 26)
“Then after the sorrow, He sent down peace on you, a slumber that overcame a party of you.” (Al-Imran: 155)
“And He has sent down eight head of cattle in pairs.” (Al- Zumar : 7)
“We have indeed sent down raiment to you to cover your shame, and to be an elegant dress; but the raiment of righteousness, that is the best. That is one of the Signs of Allah that they may remember.” (Al-A’raf: 27)
“And sent down on you Manna and Salwa” (Al-Baqarah: 58)
“And Verily, We sent Our Messengers with manifest Signs and sent down with them the Book and the Balance that people may act with justice; and We sent down iron, wherein is material for violent warfare and many benefits for mankind” (Al-Hadid: 26)
“And if Allah should enlarge the provision for His servants, they would rebel in the earth; but He sends down according to a proper measure as He pleases. Indeed, He is All-Aware and All-Seeing with regard to His servants.” (Al-Shura: 28)
If you have read the above verses you read about peace: Now “Peace” mentioned is a quality of the human mind and sleep a function of human brain… I presume you know this. And I assume you agree to the point.
Next, Animals, garments, green fields, quails (salwa), iron, and other things grow on the soil or come from under it. They do not drop (send down from heaven or Skies) — I presume you know this. And I assume you agree to the point.
The same word ‘Nazul’ is used everywhere, but “a descent directly from heaven” is never meant, never sanctioned by the Holy Quran.
From the Holy Quran, therefore, it appears that all things in nature descend from God (are gifted by God) and yet they do not drop from Heaven directly. Their creation takes place in and on and through this very earth. They grow on it or show themselves from under its surface.
Therefore, the word nazul or descend, when used from the coming of the Messiah, can have no other meaning. It can only point to the importance, the blessedness and the spiritual significance of the Promised Messiah. It is not in the least intended to suggest that he would “physically jump from Heaven to earth” or come “flying visibly”. A prophet only comes from amongst the common lot of men as the Holy Qur’an says:
At [6:131]: ‘…… Did not Messengers come to you from among yourselves…..’?
So the re-advent of Jesus (as) will come as a person from ‘among ourselves’ and would never come flying from the skies, as expected.
Most people forget that the word descend has been used in the Holy Quran for our beloved Holy Prophet (saw) also.
All commentators of the Holy Book take this expression to point to the greatness of the Holy Prophet and to the importance of his advent. And they are right; for, as all the world knows, the Holy Prophet was born in the house of honourable Quraish parents. The name of his father was Abdullah and the name of his mother Amina.
“Allah has indeed sent down to you a Reminder, a Messenger, who recites unto you the clear Signs of Allah, that he may bring those who believe and do good deeds out of every kind of darkness into light.” (Al-Talaq: 11-12)
Now it is amazing that the same word nazul is used about the Holy Prophet and the Messiah.
Yet, that same word is interpreted one way for the Holy Prophet and quite another way for the Messiah. The Holy Prophet was born like any other human on this earth and grew up to be a prophet. The event was described as nazul (literally, descent). Why not then mean the same thing when the same word is used for the expected Messiah?
Why not let even the Messiah descend in the ordinary way, that is, born on this earth and grow up to be a prophet?
Wrongly understood: Journey of the Holy Prophet (saw) to Heaven
In order to prove the physical ascension of Jesus (as) to the heavens, few Muslim scholars argue that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) also ascended bodily to the heavens during the night of Shab-e-M`erāj. Therefore, they say that it is not impossible for a living human being to physically go to the heavens.
Obviously God knew very well that people of the latter days would create a controversy on this topic as well and so already he included in HIS OWN words a clear picture of the night of Me’raj. However yeah! This night was made as a trial to separate the believers from the disbelievers, as said in the Holy Qur’an again at chapter 17: Verse 61:
“And We made not the Vision which We [Allah] showed thee [Mohammad (saw)] but as a trial for men…” (17:61)
The Holy Qur`ān and Hadīth prove that the ascension of the Holy Prophet (saw) was spiritual and not physical. The Holy Qur`ān and Hadīth mentions that Mohammad (saw) saw God through his heart Only.
Let us refer to Qur’an first:
[53:11] Then He [Allah] revealed to His servant [Muhammad (saw)] that which He revealed.
[53:12] The heart of the Prophet lied not in seeing what he saw.
[53:13] Will you then dispute with him about what he saw?
O Muslims, beware! Never dispute upon the words of Allah!
Hadees-e-Nabwi (saw): Not Physical Eyes, But Heart Saw
“Ibni Abbas (ra) relates that the Holy Prophet (saw) saw Allah two times through his heart (in divine visions).” (Muslim Kitab-ul-Īman)
Hadhrat Ayesha (ra) says:
“Whosoever thinks that Prophet Muhammad (saw) saw his Lord (in the real sense), he surely attributed a great lie on God…Haven’t you heard that Allāh says that the eyes do not reach Him but He reaches the eyes.” (Muslim Kitab-ul-Īman – Book of Faith)
Here  Umm-ul-Momineen Hazrat Ayesha (Radi-Allahu Anha) is referring to the Holy Qur’an [6:103]:
Eyes cannot reach Him but He reaches the eyes.
So the above (Qur’an & Hadees) perfectly confirm the point that it was only Rasool Allah (saw)’s heart which saw Lord, not his eyes… Read these verses once again:
[53:11-13] Then He [Allah] revealed to His servant [Mohammad (saw)] that which He revealed. The heart of the Prophet lied not in seeing what he saw. Will you then dispute with him about what HE saw?
Many ahadīth also prove that al-Isra and Merāj are two separate incidents.
The incident of M`erāj happened in 5th year of his prophethood at the time when the Holy Prophet (saw) was sleeping in Ka`aba. Whereas, the Isra incident happened in 11th year of Prophethood while the Holy Prophet (saw) was sleeping in his cousin Ummi Hānī’s (ra) home. The fact that he was sleeping in both cases clearly demonstrates that these incidents were spiritual and not physical.
Oh dear! I see clouds of confusion in your skies… leme clear them. Let us have some more proofs then, shall we?
Another proof: Slept In Ka`aba—Woke Up In Ka`aba
“And he was sleeping in Ka`aba…His heart was awake but his eyes were sleeping but his heart was not sleeping…and when he woke-up, he was in Ka`aba.” (Bukhari Kitab-ul-Tauheed)
The above hadīth mentioned in Bukhari categorically proves that this journey was spiritual. In the beginning this hadīth states that the Holy Prophet (saw) was sleeping in Ka`aba and it ends with the words that when he woke-up, he was still in Ka`aba. This shows that the whole vision was seen by his heart that was awake while his eyes were sleeping.
Another proof: His Body Did Not Disappear
Hadhrat Ayesha (ra) states, swearing to God, that during M`eraaj, the body of the Holy Prophet (saw) did not disappear.
“By God, the body of the Holy Prophet (saw) did not disappear, but he was raised spiritually. (Tafseer Kashāf)
Few Muslims believe that Mohammad SAW is physically alive! [These disbelievers leave me speechless so many times!]
Well, I agree. Yes, he’s alive! Of course! The truth is that He’s is alive and he will be alive till the Kalma is alive but in his spiritual status only.
Demand Of Makkan Disbelievers
Disbelievers of Makka said to the Holy Prophet (saw) that they wouldn’t believe him unless he ascended to the heavens and then descend a book upon them.
“…or you ascend up into heaven; and we will not believe in your ascension until you send down to us a Book that we can read.’
Say, ‘Holy is my Lord! I am but a mortal sent as a Messenger.’
 (17:94)
So if the chief of Prophets himself couldn’t then how could Jesus ascend while alive?
~***~
O Muslims!
[19:35] Such was Jesus, son of Mary. This is a statement of the truth about which they entertain doubt.
[3:61] This is the truth from thy Lord, so be thou not of those who doubt.
[3:59] That is what We recite unto thee of the Signs and the Reminder, full of wisdom.
[3:63] This certainly is the true account…
[3:64] But if they turn away, then remember that Allah fully knows the mischief-makers.
Allah warns the disbelievers of Truth:
[4:172] O People of the Book! Exceed not the limits in your religion, and say not of Allah anything but the truth. Verily, the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, was only a Messenger of Allah and a fulfillment of His word…
[16:45] [We sent Our Messengers] with clear Signs and Scriptures. And We have sent down to thee the Reminder that thou mayest explain to mankind that which has been sent down to them, and that they may reflect.
[4:171] O mankind, the Messenger has indeed come to you with Truth from your Lord; believe therefore, it will be better for you. But if you disbelieve, verily, to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and in the earth. And Allah is All-Knowing, Wise.
[3:64] But if they turn away, then remember that Allah fully knows the mischief-makers.
[2:13] Beware! It is surely they who create disorder, but they do not perceive it.
[5:72] And they thought that no punishment would result from their conduct, so they became blind and deaf. But Allah turned to them in mercy; yet again many of them became blind and deaf; and Allah is Watchful of what they do.
[3:57] ‘Then as for those who disbelieve, I will punish them with a severe punishment in this world and in the next, and they shall have no helpers.
[3:62] Now whoso disputes with thee concerning him, after what has come to thee of knowledge, say to him, ‘Come, let us call our sons and your sons, and our women and your women, and our people and your people; then let us pray fervently and invoke the curse of Allah on those who lie.’
[3:58] ‘And as for those who believe and do good works, He will give them their full rewards. And Allah loves not the wrongdoers.’
[10:109] Say, ‘O ye men, now has the truth come to you from your Lord. So whoever follows the guidance, follows it only for the good of his own soul, and whoever errs, errs only against it. And I am not a keeper over you.’
[23:2] Successful indeed are the believers…
  1. Wow this guy changes the Quran translations into things that don’t exist in any translation book ever.
    Whatever religion you follow if you are a liar God will punish you.
    Muhammed is just a messenger and all messengers died before him ?
    No word in this verse means died.
    You are a liar. May God treat you as you deserve for playing with his words
    • Jesus Christ died a natural death
      by Azhar Ahmad Goraya, Missionary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community
      We find that there are categorical verses that declare the death of Jesus(as) in the Qur’an. There are a few verses that are susceptible to many other meanings that are sometimes presented to try and prove his continued life, but not one of them is definitive.
      The Ahadith which mention the coming of Isa ibn-e-Maryam in the latter days thus cannot be taken literally. As Jesus(as) has died, he cannot return physically from the dead. The ahadith are metaphorical, and indicate that a Mathil or Buruz (spiritual reflection) of Isa(as) will appear in the latter days. That is, a different person who would bear the name of Jesus(as).
      The Prophet Muhammad(sa) also indicated as much when he described the physical features of the future Isa(as) as being different from the Isa ibn-e-Maryam from the past (Sahih Bukhari) and declared that the future Isa(as) would be an ummati and an Imam from amongst the Muslims of the time (Sahih Bukhari).
      The Promised Messiah(as) referencing the Holy Quran and Ahadith makes cogent arguments to prove beyond doubt that Jesus died a natural death and that no one would ever descend from heaven. One from the ummah of The Prophet(sa) would come as The Messiah and Mahdi.
      The Qur’an declares that Hazrat Isa(as) has died in a various verses.
      Use of the verb Tawaffa for Hazrat Isa(as)
      The Arabic verb tawaffa means “to take the soul and leave the body”. The root of the verb is و ف ی (wa-fa-ya). Tawaffa is the verbal form تَفَعُّلُ (tafa´ulu) of this root.
      When the verb tawaffa is used in a sentence where Allah or his angels are the subject (فاعل), a human being is the object (مفعول) and there is no mention of night, the meaning is always death. In other words, that Allah takes the soul of the person permanently.
      This construction always means to take the soul and leave the body, which is defined as death. The only exception to this rule is where there is a clear mention of night or sleep, in which case the meaning is that Allah takes the soul temporarily and then returns it. Sleep is also a sort of death, which is why it has been linked with the verb tawaffa.
      Allah has explained the use of this verb for these two occasions in the following verse of the Qur’an:
      اَللّٰہُ یَتَوَفَّی الۡاَنۡفُسَ حِیۡنَ مَوۡتِہَا وَ الَّتِیۡ لَمۡ تَمُتۡ فِیۡ مَنَامِہَا ۚ فَیُمۡسِکُ الَّتِیۡ قَضٰی عَلَیۡہَا الۡمَوۡتَ وَ یُرۡسِلُ الۡاُخۡرٰۤی اِلٰۤی اَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّی ؕ اِنَّ فِیۡ ذٰلِکَ لَاٰیٰتٍ لِّقَوۡمٍ یَّتَفَکَّرُوۡنَ
      [39:43] Allah takes away the souls (yatawaffa) of human beings at the time of their death; and during their sleep of those also that are not yet dead. And then He retains those against which He has decreed death, and sends back the others till an appointed term. In that surely are Signs for a people who reflect.
      This definition is supported by classical and standard Arabic dictionaries:
      وتوفّاه الله تعالى، وأدركته الوفاة
      (أساس البلاغ، الزمخشری، وفی)
      And Allah did the tawaffa (of someone) means that death overcame him. (Asaasul Balagha, Zamakhshari, under wafaya)
      وتُــوفِّيَ فلانٌ: إِذا ماتَ (وتَوفَّاهُ اللہ) ، عزَّ وجلَّ: إِذا (قَبَضَ) نَفْسَه؛ وَفِي الصِّحاحِ، (رُوْحَهُ)
      (تاج العروس من جواهر القاموس، الزیدی)
      That the tawaffa of someone was done (tuwuffiya fulanun) means that he died. And the meaning of “Allah did his tawaffa” means that He took his soul (nafs) and in the As-Sihaah it is mentioned “[took his] spirit (ruh)” (Taaj-ul-Uroos min Jawahir-il-Qamoos, Az-Zaidi)
      Allah has used the word tawaffa where He is the subject (فاعل), Isa(as) is the object (مفعول) and there is no mention of night in two places in the Holy Qur’an. In one place Allah promises to do the tawaffa of Hazrat Isa(as), and in the other Hazrat Isa(as) mentions the fulfilment of this promise:
      اِذۡ قَالَ اللّٰہُ یٰعِیۡسٰۤی اِنِّیۡ مُتَوَفِّیۡکَ وَ رَافِعُکَ اِلَیَّ وَ مُطَہِّرُکَ مِنَ الَّذِیۡنَ کَفَرُوۡا وَ جَاعِلُ الَّذِیۡنَ اتَّبَعُوۡکَ فَوۡقَ الَّذِیۡنَ کَفَرُوۡۤا اِلٰی یَوۡمِ الۡقِیٰمَۃِ ۚ ثُمَّ اِلَیَّ مَرۡجِعُکُمۡ فَاَحۡکُمُ بَیۡنَکُمۡ فِیۡمَا کُنۡتُمۡ فِیۡہِ تَخۡتَلِفُوۡنَ
      [3:56] When Allah said, ‘O Jesus, I will cause thee to die a natural death (mutawaffika) and will exalt thee to Myself, and will clear thee from the charges of those who disbelieve, and will place those who follow thee above those who disbelieve, until the Day of Resurrection; then to Me shall be your return, and I will judge between you concerning that wherein you differ.
      مَا قُلۡتُ لَہُمۡ اِلَّا مَاۤ اَمَرۡتَنِیۡ بِہٖۤ اَنِ اعۡبُدُوا اللّٰہَ رَبِّیۡ وَ رَبَّکُمۡ ۚ وَ کُنۡتُ عَلَیۡہِمۡ شَہِیۡدًا مَّا دُمۡتُ فِیۡہِمۡ ۚ فَلَمَّا تَوَفَّیۡتَنِیۡ کُنۡتَ اَنۡتَ الرَّقِیۡبَ عَلَیۡہِمۡ ؕ وَ اَنۡتَ عَلٰی کُلِّ شَیۡءٍ شَہِیۡدٌ
      [5:118] “I said nothing to them except that which Thou didst command me — ‘Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.’ And I was a witness over them as long as I remained among them, but since Thou didst cause me to die (tawaffaitani), Thou hast been the Watcher over them; and Thou art Witness over all things.
      Therefore, Allah has stated that Hazrat Isa(as) has died, because in these two places there is no mention of night, which would change the definition to sleep.
      About both of these verses, we find primary Islamic sources attesting to the fact that the verb tawaffa refers to death.
      About (3:56), Imam Bukhari has recorded the interpretation of Hazrat Ibn-e-Abbas(ra) about the meaning of the word mutawaffika. He writes:
      وَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: {مُتَوَفِّيكَ} [آل عمران: 55]: «مُمِيتُكَ»
      (صحیح البخاری، کتاب تفسیر القرآن، بَابُ {مَا جَعَلَ اللَّهُ مِنْ بَحِيرَةٍ وَلاَ سَائِبَةٍ، وَلاَ وَصِيلَةٍ وَلاَ حَامٍ} [المائدة: 103])
      Ibn-e-Abbas stated: mutawaffika means “I will cause you to die”
      (Sahih Al-Bukhari, the Book of Tafseer, Chapter: It was not Allah who instituted (superstitions like those of) a slit-ear she-camel, or a she-camel let loose for free pasture, or idol sacrifices for twin-births in animals, or stallion-camels freed from work [Al-Maidah:103])
      About (5:118), we find a clear hadith which shows that the Holy Prophet(sa) understood the word tawaffa in reference to Hazrat Isa(as) as referring to death as well.
      Referencing and consequently explaining the true meaning of (5:118), it is narrated:
      حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الوَلِيدِ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، أَخْبَرَنَا المُغِيرَةُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا، قَالَ: خَطَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، إِنَّكُمْ مَحْشُورُونَ إِلَى اللَّهِ حُفَاةً عُرَاةً غُرْلًا»، ثُمَّ قَالَ: {كَمَا بَدَأْنَا أَوَّلَ خَلْقٍ نُعِيدُهُ، وَعْدًا عَلَيْنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا فَاعِلِينَ} [الأنبياء: 104] إِلَى آخِرِ الآيَةِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: ” أَلاَ وَإِنَّ أَوَّلَ الخَلاَئِقِ يُكْسَى يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ إِبْرَاهِيمُ، أَلاَ وَإِنَّهُ يُجَاءُ بِرِجَالٍ مِنْ أُمَّتِي فَيُؤْخَذُ بِهِمْ ذَاتَ الشِّمَالِ، فَأَقُولُ: يَا رَبِّ أُصَيْحَابِي، فَيُقَالُ: إِنَّكَ لاَ تَدْرِي مَا أَحْدَثُوا بَعْدَكَ، فَأَقُولُ كَمَا قَالَ العَبْدُ الصَّالِحُ: {وَكُنْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ شَهِيدًا مَا دُمْتُ فِيهِمْ، فَلَمَّا تَوَفَّيْتَنِي كُنْتَ أَنْتَ الرَّقِيبَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَأَنْتَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيدٌ} [المائدة: 117] فَيُقَالُ: إِنَّ هَؤُلاَءِ لَمْ يَزَالُوا مُرْتَدِّينَ عَلَى أَعْقَابِهِمْ مُنْذُ فَارَقْتَهُمْ “
      (صحیح البخاری، کتاب التفسیر، بَابُ {وَكُنْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ شَهِيدًا مَا دُمْتُ فِيهِمْ، فَلَمَّا تَوَفَّيْتَنِي كُنْتَ أَنْتَ الرَّقِيبَ عَلَيْهِمْ، وَأَنْتَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيدٌ} [المائدة: 117]، حدیث ۴۶۲۵)
      Narrated Ibn `Abbas:
      Allah’s Messenger(sa) delivered a sermon and said, “O people! You will be gathered before Allah barefooted, naked and not circumcised.” Then (quoting Qur’an) he said:– “As We began the first creation, We shall repeat it. A promise We have undertaken: Truly we shall do it..” (21.104) The Prophet(sa) then said, “The first of the human beings to be dressed on the Day of Resurrection, will be Abraham.
      Lo! Some men from my followers will be brought and then (the angels) will drive them to the left side (Hell-Fire). I will say. ‘O my Lord! (They are) my companions!’ Then a reply will come (from Almighty), ‘You do not know what they did after you.’ I will say as the pious slave (the Prophet(sa) Jesus) said: And I was a witness over them while I dwelt amongst them, but when caused me to die (tawaffaitani). You were the Watcher over them and You are a Witness to all things.’ (5.117) Then it will be said, “These people have continued to be apostates since you left them.”
      (Sahih Al-Bukhari, the Book of Commentary, Chapter: And I was a witness over them as long as I remained among them, but since Thou didst cause me to die (tawaffaitani), Thou hast been the Watcher over them; and Thou art Witness over all things, Hadith #4625)
      As is obvious, the prophet Muhammad(sa) was speaking about his death in this verse. The Prophet Muhammad(sa) would see on the Day of Judgement some of his companions being thrown in the fire, and would try and intercede before Allah and testify to their good actions and pious lives. Thereafter Allah would state that they left the religion of Islam after your death. In fact, there were large numbers of Bedouins that had accepted Islam outwardly that soon after joined the false prophet movements, such as of Musailma Kazzab, that arose after the death of the prophet Muhammad(sa).
      In response to this, the Prophet Muhammad(sa) would state his innocence of their actions and offer the explanation that such a thing did not happen in his presence, rather during his life he kept them on the straight path, and after his death he could no longer be responsible for their actions in any way. This is the same argument that Jesus(as) would give before Allah – that he was not responsible for the misguidance of his people, as they went astray after his death (tawaffaitani).
      Does tawaffa mean “to elevate” or “to take fully”?
      The word tawaffa in the above two verses in reference to Hazrat Isa(as) is sometimes translated as “taken fully” or “elevated”. These translations are theologically inspired and biased to account for a mistaken belief that Isa(as) hasn’t died. They are not true to the Arabic language in general, and even more, starkly against the idiom of the Qur’an.
      The word “Tawaffa” in the context mentioned above has been used 24 times in the Holy Qur’an, and in every instance it means death. Some instances are:
      رَبِّ قَدۡ اٰتَیۡتَنِیۡ مِنَ الۡمُلۡکِ وَ عَلَّمۡتَنِیۡ مِنۡ تَاۡوِیۡلِ الۡاَحَادِیۡثِ ۚ فَاطِرَ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ الۡاَرۡضِ ۟ اَنۡتَ وَلِیّٖ فِی الدُّنۡیَا وَ الۡاٰخِرَۃِ ۚ تَوَفَّنِیۡ مُسۡلِمًا وَّ اَلۡحِقۡنِیۡ بِالصّٰلِحِیۡنَ
      [12:102] ‘O my Lord, Thou hast bestowed power upon me and taught me the interpretation of dreams. O Maker of the heavens and the earth, Thou art my Protector in this world and the Hereafter. Let death come to me (tawaffani) in a state of submission to Thy will and join me to the righteous.’
      فَکَیۡفَ اِذَا تَوَفَّتۡہُمُ الۡمَلٰٓئِکَۃُ یَضۡرِبُوۡنَ وُجُوۡہَہُمۡ وَ اَدۡبَارَہُمۡ
      [47:28] But how will they fare when the angels will cause them to die (tawaffat hum), smiting their faces and their backs?
      قُلۡ یَتَوَفّٰٮکُمۡ مَّلَکُ الۡمَوۡتِ الَّذِیۡ وُکِّلَ بِکُمۡ ثُمَّ اِلٰی رَبِّکُمۡ تُرۡجَعُوۡنَ
      [32:12] Say, ‘The angel of death that has been put in charge of you will cause you to die (yatawaffaakum); then to your Lord will you be brought back.’
      Even clearer evidence is that this construction with the word tawaffa has been used 3 times for the Holy Prophet(sa) himself in the Holy Qu’ran. In each place the meaning is always taken as death:
      وَ اِمَّا نُرِیَنَّکَ بَعۡضَ الَّذِیۡ نَعِدُہُمۡ اَوۡ نَتَوَفَّیَنَّکَ فَاِلَیۡنَا مَرۡجِعُہُمۡ ثُمَّ اللّٰہُ شَہِیۡدٌ عَلٰی مَا یَفۡعَلُوۡنَ
      [10:47] And if We show thee in thy lifetime the fulfilment of some of the things with which We have threatened them, thou wilt know it; or if We cause thee to die before that (natawaffayannaka), then to Us is their return, and thou wilt see the fulfilment in the next world; and Allah is Witness to all that they do.
      وَ اِنۡ مَّا نُرِیَنَّکَ بَعۡضَ الَّذِیۡ نَعِدُہُمۡ اَوۡ نَتَوَفَّیَنَّکَ فَاِنَّمَا عَلَیۡکَ الۡبَلٰغُ وَ عَلَیۡنَا الۡحِسَابُ
      [13:41] And whether We make thee see the fulfilment of some of the things with which We threaten them or whether We make thee die (natawaffayannaka), it makes little difference, for on thee lies only the delivery of the Message, and on Us the reckoning.
      فَاصۡبِرۡ اِنَّ وَعۡدَ اللّٰہِ حَقٌّ ۚ فَاِمَّا نُرِیَنَّکَ بَعۡضَ الَّذِیۡ نَعِدُہُمۡ اَوۡ نَتَوَفَّیَنَّکَ فَاِلَیۡنَا یُرۡجَعُوۡنَ
      [40:78] Then have patience. Surely, the promise of Allah is true. And whether We show thee part of what We have promised them, or whether We cause thee to die (natawaffayannaka) before the fulfilment of Our promise, to Us in any case will they be brought back.
      Is it not unjust that when the word tawaffa appears for the Prophet Muhammad(sa), the translation that is given is always the taking of the soul permanently (death), but when the same word is used for Jesus(as) in the same context, the definition is falsely changed to “raised” or “elevated”?
      The Promised Messiah(as) issued a challenge of one thousand rupees to anyone doubting the definition of tawaffa as taking the soul and leaving the body to provide any evidence to the contrary from classical Islamic and arab language sources:
      بعض علماء وقت کو اس بات پرسخت غلو ہے کہ مسیح ابن مریم فوت نہیں ہوا بلکہ زندہ ہی آسمان کی طرف اٹھایا گیا اور حیات جسمانی دنیوی کے ساتھ آسمان پر موجود ہے اورنہایت بے باکی اورشوخی کی راہ سے کہتے ہیں کہ تَوَفِّی کالفظ جو قرآن کریم میں حضرت مسیح کی نسبت آیا ہے اس کے معنے وفات دینا نہیں ہے بلکہ پورا لینا ہے یعنی یہ کہ روح کے ساتھ جسم کو بھی لے لینا۔مگر ایسے معنے کرنا اُن کا سراسر افتراء ہے قرآن کریم کا عمومًا التزام کے ساتھ اس لفظ کے بارہ میں یہ محاورہ ہے کہ وہ لفظ قبض روح اور وفات دینے کے معنوں پر ہریک جگہ اس کو استعمال کرتاہے۔ یہی محاورہ تمام حدیثوں اور جمیع اقوال رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم میں پایا جاتاہے۔ جب سے دنیا میں عرب کا جزیرہ آباد ہواہے اور زبان عربی جاری ہوئی ہے کسی قول قدیم یاجدید سے ثابت نہیں ہوتا کہ تَوَفِّی کا لفظ کبھی قبض جسم کی نسبت استعمال کیاگیاہوبلکہ جہاں کہیں تَوَفّی کے لفظ کو خدائے تعالیٰ کا فعل ٹھہرا کر انسان کی نسبت استعمال کیا گیا ہے وہ صرف وفات دینے اور قبض روح کے معنی پر آیاہے نہ قبض جسم کے معنوں میں۔ کوئی کتاب لغت کی اس کے مخالف نہیں۔ کوئی مثل اور قول اہل زبان کا اس کے مغائر نہیں غرض ایک ذرہ احتمال مخالف کے گنجائش نہیںؔ ۔اگر کوئی شخص قرآن کریم سے یا کسی حدیث رسول اللہ صلعم سے یااشعار وقصائد و نظم ونثر قدیم وجدید عرب سے یہ ثبوت پیش کرے کہ کسی جگہ تَوَفِّی کا لفظ خدا تعالیٰ کا فعل ہونے کی حالت میں جو ذوی الروح کی نسبت استعمال کیا گیا ہو وہ بجُز قبض روح اور وفات دینے کے کسی اور معنی پر بھی اطلاق پاگیا ہے یعنی قبض جسم کے معنوں میں بھی مستعمل ہوا ہے تو میں اللہ جلَّ شَانُہٗ کی قسم کھا کر اقرار صحیح شرعی کرتاہوں کہ ایسے شخص کو اپنا کوئی حصہ ملکیت کا فروخت کر کے مبلغ ہزار روپیہ نقد دوں گا اور آئندہ اس کی کمالات حدیث دانی اور قرآن دانی کا اقرارکرلوں گا۔ (روحانی خزائن، جلد ۳، ازالہ اوھام، صفحہ ۶۰۲ تا ۶۰۳)
      Some contemporary scholars repeatedly insist that the Messiah ibn-e-Maryam has not died, rather he was raised alive to heaven, and is present in heaven with his physical, worldly body and life. And with great boldness and insolence they state that the word tawaffi that has come in reference to the messiah does not mean death, rather it means “to take fully”. Meaning, that the body was taken along with the soul. But to translate it in this way is clear fabrication. The Qur’an in its idiom has in every place used this word to mean the taking of the soul and death. This same meaning is found in all ahadith and sayings of the Holy Prophet(sa). Ever since the Arabian Peninsula was inhabited and the Arabic language began, it cannot be shown through any ancient or modern text that the word tawaffi has been used for taking the body. Rather, wherever the word tawaffa has been attributed as a verb to Allah in regards to a human being, it has only ever meant causing death and taking of the soul and not in the sense of taking the body. There is no Arabic dictionary that presents something contrary to this. There is no expression or saying attributed to the experts of the language that is against this. Thus, there is not the slightest chance of a separate meaning. If anyone presents proof from the Holy Qur’an, or any hadith of the Holy Prophet(sa), or poetry, odes or ancient or modern arabic prose that in any place where the word tawaffi as a verb attributed to Allah is used regarding an animate individual, means anything other than causing death and taking the soul, that is to say that it also means the taking of the body, then I swear by Allah the Magnificent an oath according to proper Islamic law that I will give such a person one thousand rupees in cash by selling some portion of my property and will from hereon in admit his excellence in the sciences of hadith and the Holy Qur’an. (Ruhani Khazain, vol. 3, Izala Auham, pgs. 602-603)
      All Prophets Before the Prophet Muhammad(sa) have Passed Away
      Other than the categorical declaration found in the word tawaffa, the Holy Qur’an mentions in general that all prophets before the Holy Prophet(sa) have passed away:
      وَ مَا مُحَمَّدٌ اِلَّا رَسُوۡلٌ ۚ قَدۡ خَلَتۡ مِنۡ قَبۡلِہِ الرُّسُلُ ؕ اَفَا۠ئِنۡ مَّاتَ اَوۡ قُتِلَ انۡقَلَبۡتُمۡ عَلٰۤی اَعۡقَابِکُمۡ ؕ وَ مَنۡ یَّنۡقَلِبۡ عَلٰی عَقِبَیۡہِ فَلَنۡ یَّضُرَّ اللّٰہَ شَیۡئًا ؕ وَ سَیَجۡزِی اللّٰہُ الشّٰکِرِیۡنَ
      [3:145] And Muhammad is only a Messenger. Verily, all Messengers have passed away before him. If then he die or be slain, will you turn back on your heels? And he who turns back on his heels shall not harm Allah at all. And Allah will certainly reward the grateful.
      The argument given in this verse is that the prophet Muhammad(as) is truthful, and that death, whether natural or through martyrdom, would not nullify his truthfulness. In fact, all prophets before him have passed away. As previous prophets all died, eventually the Prophet Muhammad(as) will also pass away.
      This was the ijmaa (consensus) upon this verse of all the coompanions upon the death of the Holy Prophet(as). They all agreed that this verse applied to all previous prophets, and not one of them was alive if the Holy Prophet(as) had passed away. It is narrated:
      حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلاَلٍ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم مَاتَ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ بِالسُّنْحِ ـ قَالَ إِسْمَاعِيلُ يَعْنِي بِالْعَالِيَةِ ـ فَقَامَ عُمَرُ يَقُولُ وَاللَّهِ مَا مَاتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم‏.‏ قَالَتْ وَقَالَ عُمَرُ وَاللَّهِ مَا كَانَ يَقَعُ فِي نَفْسِي إِلاَّ ذَاكَ وَلَيَبْعَثَنَّهُ اللَّهُ فَلَيَقْطَعَنَّ أَيْدِيَ رِجَالٍ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ‏.‏ فَجَاءَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَكَشَفَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَبَّلَهُ قَالَ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي طِبْتَ حَيًّا وَمَيِّتًا، وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لاَ يُذِيقُكَ اللَّهُ الْمَوْتَتَيْنِ أَبَدًا‏.‏ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَقَالَ أَيُّهَا الْحَالِفُ عَلَى رِسْلِكَ‏.‏ فَلَمَّا تَكَلَّمَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ جَلَسَ عُمَرُ‏.‏ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَ أَلاَ مَنْ كَانَ يَعْبُدُ مُحَمَّدًا صلى الله عليه وسلم فَإِنَّ مُحَمَّدًا قَدْ مَاتَ، وَمَنْ كَانَ يَعْبُدُ اللَّهَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ حَىٌّ لاَ يَمُوتُ‏.‏ وَقَالَ ‏{‏إِنَّكَ مَيِّتٌ وَإِنَّهُمْ مَيِّتُونَ‏}‏ وَقَالَ ‏{‏وَمَا مُحَمَّدٌ إِلاَّ رَسُولٌ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِهِ الرُّسُلُ أَفَإِنْ مَاتَ أَوْ قُتِلَ انْقَلَبْتُمْ عَلَى أَعْقَابِكُمْ وَمَنْ يَنْقَلِبْ عَلَى عَقِبَيْهِ فَلَنْ يَضُرَّ اللَّهَ شَيْئًا وَسَيَجْزِي اللَّهُ الشَّاكِرِينَ‏}‏ قَالَ فَنَشَجَ النَّاسُ يَبْكُونَ ـ
      (صحیح البخاری، كتاب فضائل أصحاب النبى صلى الله عليه وسلم، باب قَوْلِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏”‏ لَوْ كُنْتُ مُتَّخِذًا خَلِيلاً ‏”‏ قَالَهُ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ، حدیث ۳۶۶۸)
      Narrated ‘Aisha: (the wife of the Prophet) Allah’s Messenger(sa) died while Abu Bakr was at a place called As-Sunah (Al-‘Aliya) ‘Umar stood up and said, “By Allah! Allah’s Messenger(sa) is not dead!” ‘Umar (later on) said, “By Allah! Nothing occurred to my mind except that.” He said, “Verily! Allah will send him and he will cut the hands and legs of some men.” Then Abu Bakr came and uncovered the face of Allah’s Messenger(sa), kissed him and said, “Let my mother and father be sacrificed for you, (O Allah’s Messenger(sa)), you are good in life and in death. By Allah in Whose Hands my life is, Allah will never make you taste death twice.” Then he went out and said, “O oath-taker! Don’t be hasty.” When Abu Bakr spoke, ‘Umar sat down. Abu Bakr praised and glorified Allah and said, No doubt! Whoever worshipped Muhammad, then Muhammad is dead, but whoever worshipped Allah, then Allah is Alive and shall never die.” Then he recited Allah’s Statement.:– “(O Muhammad) Verily you will die, and they also will die.” (39.30) He also recited:–
      “Muhammad is no more than an Apostle; and indeed the Apostles have passed away, before him, If he dies Or is killed, will you then Turn back on your heels? And he who turns back On his heels, not the least Harm will he do to Allah And Allah will give reward to those Who are grateful.” (3.144)
      The people wept loudly…
      (Sahih Al-Bukhari, the Book about the Virtues of the Companions of the Prophet(sa), Chapter: the words of the prophet(sa) – “If I were to take Khalil …”, Hadith #3668)
      It seems that Hazrat Umar(ra) believed that either the Holy Prophet(sa) had fallen asleep, or that he had been raised to heaven or some other location and that Allah would send him again as a prophet. Hazrat Abu Bakr(ra) removed this misunderstanding by quoting (3:145), which categorically claimed that all prophets had died before the prophet Muhammad(sa), and therefore his death was also something that must occur as well.
      If any of the previous prophet had in fact not died and had been raised to heaven or avoided death in another way, then the argument would no longer be valid. Hazrat Umar(ra) would have stood up and stated that this verse was not categorical, and would have presented the view that Jesus(as) had not yet died rather was alive in heaven, therefore this verse could not be used to prove the death of the Prophet Muhammad(sa).
      But what actually happened is all of the companions upon hearing this verse accepted the death of the Holy Prophet(sa), as the verse was categorical: all previous prophets had died and would not return, and the same would occur with the Prophet Muhammad(sa). There was no exception to the rule.
      All Beings Worshipped at the Time of the Prophet(sa) were Dead
      The Qur’an declares that all beings that were being worshipped during the time of the Holy Prophet(sa) were in fact dead:
      وَ الَّذِیۡنَ یَدۡعُوۡنَ مِنۡ دُوۡنِ اللّٰہِ لَا یَخۡلُقُوۡنَ شَیۡئًا وَّ ہُمۡ یُخۡلَقُوۡنَ۔ اَمۡوَاتٌ غَیۡرُ اَحۡیَآءٍ ۚ وَ مَا یَشۡعُرُوۡنَ ۙ اَیَّانَ یُبۡعَثُوۡنَ
      [16:21] And those on whom they call beside Allah create not anything, but they are themselves created.
      [16:22] They are dead, not living; and they know not when they will be raised.
      Hazrat Isa(as) was also worshipped at the time by Christians. These verses thus also declare that he has died.
      Unnaturally Long Life is Impossible
      The Qur’an states that unnaturally long life is impossible:
      وَ مَا جَعَلۡنَا لِبَشَرٍ مِّنۡ قَبۡلِکَ الۡخُلۡدَ ؕ اَفَا۠ئِنۡ مِّتَّ فَہُمُ الۡخٰلِدُوۡنَ
      [21:35] We granted not everlasting life to any human being before thee. If then thou shouldst die, shall they live here for ever?
      It states that whoever is granted a long life is reduced to his original state of weakness (i.e. like a baby), losing his faculties and powers:
      وَ مَنۡ نُّعَمِّرۡہُ نُنَکِّسۡہُ فِی الۡخَلۡقِ ؕ اَفَلَا یَعۡقِلُوۡنَ
      [36:69] And him whom We grant long life — We revert him to a weak condition of creation. Will they not then understand?
      Everyone is subject to the process of aging, which eventually results in old age and death:
      ہُوَ الَّذِیۡ خَلَقَکُمۡ مِّنۡ تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ مِنۡ نُّطۡفَۃٍ ثُمَّ مِنۡ عَلَقَۃٍ ثُمَّ یُخۡرِجُکُمۡ طِفۡلًا ثُمَّ لِتَبۡلُغُوۡۤا اَشُدَّکُمۡ ثُمَّ لِتَکُوۡنُوۡا شُیُوۡخًا ۚ وَ مِنۡکُمۡ مَّنۡ یُّتَوَفّٰی مِنۡ قَبۡلُ وَ لِتَبۡلُغُوۡۤا اَجَلًا مُّسَمًّی وَّ لَعَلَّکُمۡ تَعۡقِلُوۡنَ
      [40:68] He it is Who created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then from a clot; then He brings you forth as a child; then He lets you grow that you may attain your full strength; then He lets you become old — though some among you are caused to die before — and He lets you live that you may reach a term appointed, and that you may learn wisdom.
      Therefore, it is impossible to accept that Hazrat Isa(as) has been alive for over two thousand years in heaven. If he was supposedly taken alive to heaven, he would have died there long ago.
      Other than the Qur’an, there are various ahadith which either directly or indirectly speak about the death of Jesus, as well as many eminent personalities throughout the history of Islam that have accepted the death of Hazrat Isa(as), such as Hazrat Ibn-e-Abbas(as), Imam Malik, Imam Bukhari and Ibn-e-Hazam.
      Supposed Life of Jesus in the Holy Qur’an
      As opposed to the categorical verses above, there are a few ambiguous (Mutashaabih) verses of the Holy Qur’an that are sometimes erroneously used to try and prove the life of Isa(as). The Qur’an tells us that the ambiguous verses must be interpreted in light of the categorical ones:
      ہُوَ الَّذِیۡۤ اَنۡزَلَ عَلَیۡکَ الۡکِتٰبَ مِنۡہُ اٰیٰتٌ مُّحۡکَمٰتٌ ہُنَّ اُمُّ الۡکِتٰبِ وَ اُخَرُ مُتَشٰبِہٰتٌ ؕ فَاَمَّا الَّذِیۡنَ فِیۡ قُلُوۡبِہِمۡ زَیۡغٌ فَیَتَّبِعُوۡنَ مَا تَشَابَہَ مِنۡہُ ابۡتِغَآءَ الۡفِتۡنَۃِ وَ ابۡتِغَآءَ تَاۡوِیۡلِہٖ ۚ؃ وَ مَا یَعۡلَمُ تَاۡوِیۡلَہٗۤ اِلَّا اللّٰہُ ۘؔ وَ الرّٰسِخُوۡنَ فِی الۡعِلۡمِ یَقُوۡلُوۡنَ اٰمَنَّا بِہٖ ۙ کُلٌّ مِّنۡ عِنۡدِ رَبِّنَا ۚ وَ مَا یَذَّکَّرُ اِلَّاۤ اُولُوا الۡاَلۡبَابِ
      [3:8] He it is Who has sent down to thee the Book; in it there are verses that are decisive in meaning — they are the basis of the Book — and there are others that are susceptible of different interpretations. But those in whose hearts is perversity pursue such thereof as are susceptible of different interpretations, seeking discord and seeking wrong interpretation of it. And none knows its right interpretation except Allah and those who are firmly grounded in knowledge; they say, ‘We believe in it; the whole is from our Lord.’ — And none heed except those gifted with understanding. —
      Meaning of the Rafa’ of Hazrat Isa(as)
      There are two verses where Allah states that He did the Rafa’ (رفع) of Isa(as), which is sometimes erreneously translated as “physically lifted up”. In one place there is a promise of Allah that He will do the rafa’ of Isa(as), and in the other there is mention of the promise fulfilled:
      اِذۡ قَالَ اللّٰہُ یٰعِیۡسٰۤی اِنِّیۡ مُتَوَفِّیۡکَ وَ رَافِعُکَ اِلَیَّ وَ مُطَہِّرُکَ مِنَ الَّذِیۡنَ کَفَرُوۡا وَ جَاعِلُ الَّذِیۡنَ اتَّبَعُوۡکَ فَوۡقَ الَّذِیۡنَ کَفَرُوۡۤا اِلٰی یَوۡمِ الۡقِیٰمَۃِ ۚ ثُمَّ اِلَیَّ مَرۡجِعُکُمۡ فَاَحۡکُمُ بَیۡنَکُمۡ فِیۡمَا کُنۡتُمۡ فِیۡہِ تَخۡتَلِفُوۡنَ
      [3:56] When Allah said, ‘O Jesus, I will cause thee to die a natural death and will exalt thee (raafiu’ka) to Myself, and will clear thee from the charges of those who disbelieve, and will place those who follow thee above those who disbelieve, until the Day of Resurrection; then to Me shall be your return, and I will judge between you concerning that wherein you differ.
      وَّ قَوۡلِہِمۡ اِنَّا قَتَلۡنَا الۡمَسِیۡحَ عِیۡسَی ابۡنَ مَرۡیَمَ رَسُوۡلَ اللّٰہِ ۚ وَ مَا قَتَلُوۡہُ وَ مَا صَلَبُوۡہُ وَ لٰکِنۡ شُبِّہَ لَہُمۡ ؕ وَ اِنَّ الَّذِیۡنَ اخۡتَلَفُوۡا فِیۡہِ لَفِیۡ شَکٍّ مِّنۡہُ ؕ مَا لَہُمۡ بِہٖ مِنۡ عِلۡمٍ اِلَّا اتِّبَاعَ الظَّنِّ ۚ وَ مَا قَتَلُوۡہُ یَقِیۡنًۢا۔ بَلۡ رَّفَعَہُ اللّٰہُ اِلَیۡہِ ؕ وَ کَانَ اللّٰہُ عَزِیۡزًا حَکِیۡمًا
      [4:158] And their saying, ‘We did kill the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah;’ whereas they slew him not, nor crucified him, but he was made to appear to them like one crucified; and those who differ therein are certainly in a state of doubt about it; they have no definite knowledge thereof, but only follow a conjecture; and they did not convert this conjecture into a certainty;
      [4:159] On the contrary, Allah exalted him (rafaa’hu) to Himself. And Allah is Mighty, Wise.
      The term rafa’ is generally translated as “taken up” or “raised”, but it is erroneous to believe that it is in reference to his physical body. It is actually referring only to his soul, in which case the translation is “Allah exalted him/elevated his soul to Himself”.
      The Holy Qur’an declares that it is the righteous soul (kalima or nafs) that is raised to Allah:
      مَنۡ کَانَ یُرِیۡدُ الۡعِزَّۃَ فَلِلّٰہِ الۡعِزَّۃُ جَمِیۡعًا ؕ اِلَیۡہِ یَصۡعَدُ الۡکَلِمُ الطَّیِّبُ وَ الۡعَمَلُ الصَّالِحُ یَرۡفَعُہٗ ؕ وَ الَّذِیۡنَ یَمۡکُرُوۡنَ السَّیِّاٰتِ لَہُمۡ عَذَابٌ شَدِیۡدٌ ؕ وَ مَکۡرُ اُولٰٓئِکَ ہُوَ یَبُوۡرُ
      [35:11] Whoso desires honour, then let him know that all honour belongs to Allah. Unto Him ascend pure souls and righteous work does He exalt. And those who plot evils — for them is a severe punishment; and the plotting of such will perish.
      یٰۤاَیَّتُہَا النَّفۡسُ الۡمُطۡمَئِنَّۃُ۔ ارۡجِعِیۡۤ اِلٰی رَبِّکِ رَاضِیَۃً مَّرۡضِیَّۃً۔ فَادۡخُلِیۡ فِیۡ عِبٰدِیۡ۔ وَ ادۡخُلِیۡ جَنَّتِیۡ
      [89:28] And thou, O soul at peace!
      [89:29] Return to thy Lord well pleased with Him and He well pleased with thee.
      [89:30] So enter thou among My chosen servants,
      [89:31] And enter thou My Garden.
      As opposed to this, the Qur’an mentions that “the doors of heaven” will not be opened for wicked individuals and they will instead be condemned to Hell:
      اِنَّ الَّذِیۡنَ کَذَّبُوۡا بِاٰیٰتِنَا وَ اسۡتَکۡبَرُوۡا عَنۡہَا لَا تُفَتَّحُ لَہُمۡ اَبۡوَابُ السَّمَآءِ وَ لَا یَدۡخُلُوۡنَ الۡجَنَّۃَ حَتّٰی یَلِجَ الۡجَمَلُ فِیۡ سَمِّ الۡخِیَاطِ ؕ وَ کَذٰلِکَ نَجۡزِی الۡمُجۡرِمِیۡنَ۔ لَہُمۡ مِّنۡ جَہَنَّمَ مِہَادٌ وَّ مِنۡ فَوۡقِہِمۡ غَوَاشٍ ؕ وَ کَذٰلِکَ نَجۡزِی الظّٰلِمِیۡنَ
      [7:41] Those who reject Our Signs and turn away from them with disdain, the gates of the spiritual firmament will not be opened for them, nor will they enter Heaven until a camel goes through the eye of a needle. And thus do We requite the offenders.
      [7:42] They shall have a bed of Hell, and over them coverings of the same. And thus do We requite the unjust.
      It would be erroneous to believe that Allah is speaking here of both the physical bodies and souls of the disbelievers being denied entry to heaven. The verses are speaking about the condition of souls after death, and not of physical bodies. That is, that the souls of the wicked go to Hell, not their physical bodies.
      The Qur’an nowhere mentions physical bodies being raised alongside pure souls into heaven.
      It is important to understand the context of (4:159) to realize it’s true meaning. The verse is speaking about the Jews and their accusations against Jesus. They believed that he was killed on the cross and consequently that his soul was condemned to Hell. Allah denies both accusations. One by stating that he didn’t die on the cross, and two, that his soul did not go to hell. Rather, his soul was elevated to heaven after death like the souls of all the righteous (89:28-31).
      The verb rafa’ in the idiom of the Holy Qur’an when Allah is the subject (فاعل) and man is the object (مفعول) always refers to spiritual exaltation. It never means physically lifting someone. For example, the Holy Qur’an states:
      یٰۤاَیُّہَا الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡۤا اِذَا قِیۡلَ لَکُمۡ تَفَسَّحُوۡا فِی الۡمَجٰلِسِ فَافۡسَحُوۡا یَفۡسَحِ اللّٰہُ لَکُمۡ ۚ وَ اِذَا قِیۡلَ انۡشُزُوۡا فَانۡشُزُوۡا یَرۡفَعِ اللّٰہُ الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا مِنۡکُمۡ ۙ وَ الَّذِیۡنَ اُوۡتُوا الۡعِلۡمَ دَرَجٰتٍ ؕ وَ اللّٰہُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُوۡنَ خَبِیۡرٌ
      [58:12] O ye who believe! when it is said to you, ‘Make room!’ in your assemblies, then do make room; Allah will make ample room for you. And when it is said, ‘Rise up!’ then rise up; Allah will raise (yarfai) those who believe from among you, and those to whom knowledge is given, to degrees of rank. And Allah is Well-Aware of what you do.
      In another place, Allah juxtaposes the word rafa’ with worldly desires and inclinations:
      وَ اتۡلُ عَلَیۡہِمۡ نَبَاَ الَّذِیۡۤ اٰتَیۡنٰہُ اٰیٰتِنَا فَانۡسَلَخَ مِنۡہَا فَاَتۡبَعَہُ الشَّیۡطٰنُ فَکَانَ مِنَ الۡغٰوِیۡنَ۔ وَ لَوۡ شِئۡنَا لَرَفَعۡنٰہُ بِہَا وَ لٰکِنَّہٗۤ اَخۡلَدَ اِلَی الۡاَرۡضِ وَ اتَّبَعَ ہَوٰٮہُ ۚ فَمَثَلُہٗ کَمَثَلِ الۡکَلۡبِ ۚ اِنۡ تَحۡمِلۡ عَلَیۡہِ یَلۡہَثۡ اَوۡ تَتۡرُکۡہُ یَلۡہَثۡ ؕ ذٰلِکَ مَثَلُ الۡقَوۡمِ الَّذِیۡنَ کَذَّبُوۡا بِاٰیٰتِنَا ۚ فَاقۡصُصِ الۡقَصَصَ لَعَلَّہُمۡ یَتَفَکَّرُوۡنَ
      [7:176] And relate to them the story of him to whom We gave Our Signs, but he stepped away from them; so Satan followed him up, and he became one of those who go astray.
      [7:177] And if We had pleased, We could have exalted him (larafa’naahu) thereby ; but he inclined to the earth and followed his evil inclination. His case therefore is like the case of a thirsty dog; if thou drive him away, he hangs out his tongue; and if thou leave him, he hangs out his tongue. Such is the case of the people who disbelieve in Our Signs. So give them the description that they may ponder.
      Obviously, the comparison is only valid if rafa’ means spiritual exaltation. Physical elevation can in no way be juxtaposed to worldly inclinations and desires.
      Impossibility of Going Physically to Heaven
      Moreover, the Qur’an mentions the impossibility of physically going to heaven. The disblievers demanded this miracle from the Prophet Muhammad(sa), upon which he stated that “he was only a man”:
      وَ قَالُوۡا لَنۡ نُّؤۡمِنَ لَکَ حَتّٰی تَفۡجُرَ لَنَا مِنَ الۡاَرۡضِ یَنۡۢبُوۡعًا۔ اَوۡ تَکُوۡنَ لَکَ جَنَّۃٌ مِّنۡ نَّخِیۡلٍ وَّ عِنَبٍ فَتُفَجِّرَ الۡاَنۡہٰرَ خِلٰلَہَا تَفۡجِیۡرًا۔ اَوۡ تُسۡقِطَ السَّمَآءَ کَمَا زَعَمۡتَ عَلَیۡنَا کِسَفًا اَوۡ تَاۡتِیَ بِاللّٰہِ وَ الۡمَلٰٓئِکَۃِ قَبِیۡلًا۔ اَوۡ یَکُوۡنَ لَکَ بَیۡتٌ مِّنۡ زُخۡرُفٍ اَوۡ تَرۡقٰی فِی السَّمَآءِ ؕ وَ لَنۡ نُّؤۡمِنَ لِرُقِیِّکَ حَتّٰی تُنَزِّلَ عَلَیۡنَا کِتٰبًا نَّقۡرَؤُہٗ ؕ قُلۡ سُبۡحَانَ رَبِّیۡ ہَلۡ کُنۡتُ اِلَّا بَشَرًا رَّسُوۡلًا
      [17:91] And they say, ‘We will never believe thee until thou cause a spring to gush forth for us from the earth;
      [17:92] ‘Or thou have a garden of datepalms and vines, and cause streams to gush forth in the midst thereof in abundance;
      [17:93] ‘Or thou cause the heaven to fall upon us in pieces, as thou hast claimed, or thou bring Allah and the angels before us face to face;
      [17:94] ‘Or thou have a house of gold or thou ascend up into heaven; and we will not believe in thy ascension until thou send down to us a book that we can read.’ Say, ‘Holy is my Lord! I am not but a man sent as a Messenger.’
      Meaning, it is against the laws of Allah that a man, with both physical body and soul, ascend to heaven.
      The Jews Must All Believe in Him Before His Death
      Another ambigous verse that is presented to try to prove the life of Jesus(as) is where Allah states:
      وَ اِنۡ مِّنۡ اَہۡلِ الۡکِتٰبِ اِلَّا لَیُؤۡمِنَنَّ بِہٖ قَبۡلَ مَوۡتِہٖ ۚ وَ یَوۡمَ الۡقِیٰمَۃِ یَکُوۡنُ عَلَیۡہِمۡ شَہِیۡدًا
      [4:160] And there is none among the People of the Book but will believe in it/him before his death; and on the Day of Resurrection, it/him shall be a witness against them —
      Some take the above verse to mean that all the Jews must believe in Hazrat Isa(as) before his death. They deduce that because they haven’t yet all believed in him, he must still be alive.
      This is erroneous for several reasons.
      Firstly, the Qur’an declares categorically that the Jews will exist until the Day of Judgement with their beliefs in tact:
      وَ مِنَ الَّذِیۡنَ قَالُوۡۤا اِنَّا نَصٰرٰۤی اَخَذۡنَا مِیۡثَاقَہُمۡ فَنَسُوۡا حَظًّا مِّمَّا ذُکِّرُوۡا بِہٖ ۪ فَاَغۡرَیۡنَا بَیۡنَہُمُ الۡعَدَاوَۃَ وَ الۡبَغۡضَآءَ اِلٰی یَوۡمِ الۡقِیٰمَۃِ ؕ وَ سَوۡفَ یُنَبِّئُہُمُ اللّٰہُ بِمَا کَانُوۡا یَصۡنَعُوۡنَ
      [5:15] And from those also who say, ‘We are Christians,’ We took a covenant, but they too have forgotten a good part of that with which they were exhorted. So We have caused enmity and hatred among them till the Day of Resurrection. And Allah will soon let them know what they have been doing.
      وَ قَالَتِ الۡیَہُوۡدُ یَدُ اللّٰہِ مَغۡلُوۡلَۃٌ ؕ غُلَّتۡ اَیۡدِیۡہِمۡ وَ لُعِنُوۡا بِمَا قَالُوۡا ۘ بَلۡ یَدٰہُ مَبۡسُوۡطَتٰنِ ۙ یُنۡفِقُ کَیۡفَ یَشَآءُ ؕ وَ لَیَزِیۡدَنَّ کَثِیۡرًا مِّنۡہُمۡ مَّاۤ اُنۡزِلَ اِلَیۡکَ مِنۡ رَّبِّکَ طُغۡیَانًا وَّ کُفۡرًا ؕ وَ اَلۡقَیۡنَا بَیۡنَہُمُ الۡعَدَاوَۃَ وَ الۡبَغۡضَآءَ اِلٰی یَوۡمِ الۡقِیٰمَۃِ ؕ کُلَّمَاۤ اَوۡقَدُوۡا نَارًا لِّلۡحَرۡبِ اَطۡفَاَہَا اللّٰہُ ۙ وَ یَسۡعَوۡنَ فِی الۡاَرۡضِ فَسَادًا ؕ وَ اللّٰہُ لَا یُحِبُّ الۡمُفۡسِدِیۡنَ
      [5:65] And the Jews say, ‘The hand of Allah is tied up.’ Their own hands shall be tied up and they shall be cursed for what they say. Nay, both His hands are wide open; He spends how He pleases. And what has been sent down to thee from thy Lord will most surely increase many of them in rebellion and disbelief. And We have cast among them enmity and hatred till the Day of Resurrection. Whenever they kindle a fire for war, Allah extinguishes it. And they strive to create disorder in the earth, and Allah loves not those who create disorder.
      Therefore, they can never all believe in Isa(as) with all of them becoming Muslims.
      Secondly, to state that the verse means “all the Jews must believe in him” means that one must also believe that no Jew died since the time of Isa(as) nor will die until his return. Or that they all be resurrected at the time of his supposed arrival so that they all believe in him. This is obviously absurd.
      Whether the verse is actually refering to belief in Isa(as), and belief in what sense, is disputed by the classical commentators.
      Some believe it is not referring to Hazrat Isa(as) at all, rather Allah or the Holy Prophet(sa). This is because the pronoun in the verse به (bihi) is not categorically pointing to Isa(as), rather can refer to other persons or things as well.
      Others believe that the term موته (mautihi) “his death” refers not the death of Isa(as) but the death of the Jews themselves. Meaning, each Jew will believe in Hazrat Isa(as) in the moment before his death when the angels of Allah inform him of his truthfulness. This is affirmed by an alternative reading (commentary) in which موته (mautihi) “his death” has been explained as موتھم (mautihim) “their death”.
      In Tafseer Kashaaf under 4:160 Imam Zamakhshari states:
      لَيُؤْمِنَنَّ بِهِ جملة قسمية واقعة صفة لموصوف محذوف تقديره: وإن من أهل الكتاب أحد إلا ليؤمننّ به. ونحوه: (وَما مِنَّا إِلَّا لَهُ مَقامٌ مَعْلُومٌ) ، (وَإِنْ مِنْكُمْ إِلَّا وارِدُها) والمعنى: وما من اليهود والنصارى أحد إلا ليؤمننّ قبل موته بعيسى، وبأنه عبد اللَّه ورسوله، يعنى: إذا عاين قبل أن تزهق روحه ۔۔۔
      وتدل عليه قراءة أبىّ: إلا ليؤمننّ به قبل موتهم، بضم النون على معنى: وإن منهم أحد إلا سيؤمنون به قبل موتهم۔۔۔
      وقيل: الضمير في: (بِهِ) يرجع إلى اللَّه تعالى. وقيل: إلى محمد صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم.
      (الكشاف عن حقائق غوامض التنزيل، زمخشری)
      لَيُؤْمِنَنَّ بِهِ (layu’minanna bihi) is a statement of fact sentence, where the quality of the described object has been omitted before it’s mention:
      وإن من أهل الكتاب أحد إلا ليؤمننّ به.
      And there is not anyone (ahadun) from amongst the people of the book but will believe in him.
      And there are similar examples found in the Qur’an, such as in:
      وَما مِنَّا إِلَّا لَهُ مَقامٌ مَعْلُومٌ
      And there is none from amongst us but that he has a fixed station (37:165)
      وَإِنْ مِنْكُمْ إِلَّا وارِدُها
      And there is none from amongst you all but that he will enter it (19:72).
      And the meaning thus is: and there is none from amongst the Jews or the Christians except that they will believe in him before his death, meaning believing in Isa(as). This is because he is a servant of Allah and His messenger. Meaning, when they see (the angels) before their soul leave their bodies…
      And the reading of Ubai bin Ka’ab supports this meaning, where it states:
      إلا ليؤمننّ به قبل موتهم
      (illa layuminanna bihi qabla mautihim)
      With a kasrah under the nun, with the meaning that there is noone from amongst them but he will believe in Jesus(as) before their death…
      And it is said that the pronoun in به (bihi) (in him) refers to Allah, and it is also said that it refers to the prophet Muhammad(sa). (Tafseer Al-Kashaaf, Zamakhshari)
      A simple understanding of the verse can be deduced from the context. The previous verse states that neither the Jews nor Christians are certain as to whether Isa(as) was killed. This is a miraculous claim, seeing that it strikes at the root of both religions. The Qur’an then states that there is none but will believe in this (i.e. that what the Qur’an has stated in this regard that they have no certain knowledge about his death) before their death. So this miraculous claim was fulfilled during the life of the Holy Prophet(sa). Despite this challenge, not one of them dared to raise their voice against it and accept the challenge by stating that they certainly believed based on solid proof that Jesus had died on the cross. The entire generation died without raising an objection to it, and thus a great intellectual miracle of the Qur’an was demonstrated.
      From a different angle, the verse could also be referring to the tribes of Israel, and not each individual Jew. The translation would thus be, “And there is no tribe amongst the People of the Book but will believe in him before his death”. This translation is also valid, and indicates that Jesus(as) certainly travelled and took his message to all of the twelve tribes of Israel, and members from each tribe believed in him before his death.
      Jesus(as) is a Sign of the Hour
      Certain Muslims believe that the Holy Qur’an has stated that the physical return of Jesus(as) is a sign of the latter days. Therefore, he cannot have died, rather he was raised and will return:
      وَ اِنَّہٗ لَعِلۡمٌ لِّلسَّاعَۃِ فَلَا تَمۡتَرُنَّ بِہَا وَ اتَّبِعُوۡنِ ؕ ہٰذَا صِرَاطٌ مُّسۡتَقِیۡمٌ
      [43:62] But verily, he/it is a sign of the Hour. So have no doubt about it, but follow me. This is the right path.
      Within it’s context, the verse does not refer to the descent of Jesus as a sign of the latter days.
      Firstly, the verse does not specifically mention Jesus by name, rather only a pronoun has been used in the form of انه (innahu), “certainly he/it”. Classical commentators, amongst other interpretations, have also stated that the pronoun is referring not to Jesus, rather the Holy Qur’an. In Mu’alim At-Tanzeel Fi Tafseer-il-Qur’an, also known as Tafseer-e-Baghwi, it is stated:
      وَقَالَ الْحَسَنُ وَجَمَاعَةٌ: وَإِنَّهُ يَعْنِي وَإِنَّ الْقُرْآنَ لَعِلْمٌ لِلسَّاعَةِ يُعْلِمُكُمْ قِيَامَهَا. وَيُخْبِرُكُمْ بِأَحْوَالِهَا وَأَهْوَالِهَا، فَلا تَمْتَرُنَّ بِها (معالم التنزيل في تفسير القرآن = تفسير البغوي)
      And Hassan along with a group of others have stated: “And surely it” refers to the Qur’an as a sign of the Hour, because it teaches you it’s details. And informs you of it’s characteristics and happenings, so don’t doubt it.
      In the same Tafseer, the passage “follow me” has been explained as referring to the Prophet Muhammad(as).
      Where some commentators have claimed that it refers to the return of Jesus(as) in the latter days, on closer inspection we find that the context and understanding that arises from the verse does not allow this interpretation.
      This is because the Qur’an is stating here that the sign that the resurrection is true is before the disbelievers, therefore they should not doubt it (i.e. the reality of the Day of Judgement). If the sign was the return of Jesus, how could the disbelievers be expected to believe in the resurrection if the sign had not yet been shown? As opposed to this illogical stance, the Qur’an states that it is a definite sign of the truthfulness of the Day of Judgement as it is granting life to the spiritual dead before the eyes of the disbelievers. This is through a motif of water granting life to land deprived of life:
      وَ اَنۡزَلۡنَا مِنَ السَّمَآءِ مَآءً طَہُوۡرًا۔ لِّنُحۡیِۦَ بِہٖ بَلۡدَۃً مَّیۡتًا
      [25:49] …and We send down pure water from the sky
      [25:50] That We may thereby give life to a dead land…
      وَ اَحۡیَیۡنَا بِہٖ بَلۡدَۃً مَّیۡتًا ؕ کَذٰلِکَ الۡخُرُوۡجُ
      [50:12] and We quicken thereby a dead land. Even so shall be the Resurrection.
      Moreover, the Holy Prophet(sa) has also been stated to have granted life to the spiritually dead, which is why it would also be valid to assume that the verse is referring to him:
      یٰۤاَیُّہَا الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوا اسۡتَجِیۡبُوۡا لِلّٰہِ وَ لِلرَّسُوۡلِ اِذَا دَعَاکُمۡ لِمَا یُحۡیِیۡکُمۡ
      [8:25] O ye who believe! respond to Allah, and the Messenger when he calls you that he may give you life…
      If we accept that it is referring to Jesus(as) at all, it is only regarding his time amongst the Jews before his death, and not about any future appearance. It is signaling the past, and not the future. If it categorically referred to the future, the wording would have been
      وَإِنَّهُ سَیَکُوْنُ لَعِلْمٌ لِّلسَّاعَةِ
      Innahu sayakuunu la ilmul lis’saa’ati
      In another verse, the Qur’an refers to his birth being a sign for a group of men:
      وَ لِنَجۡعَلَہٗۤ اٰیَۃً لِّلنَّاسِ
      [19:22] …so that We may make him a Sign unto men…
      The “men” referred to here are the Sadducees, a Jewish sect who denied the resurrection. Several of their prophets had received the glad tidings that the Messiah would be born of a virgin. This miraculous birth would be a sign to them of his truthfulness and that as Allah could grant life to someone without the agency of a male, in the same way He was able to grant life to the dead.
      Looking at it from a different angle, the verse does not mention the latter days, nor the day of Judgement, rather the word that has been used in Arabic is ساعة (saa’a), which literally means time. Where in certain places it can be understood as the Day of Judgement, it can also be understood as any time of momentious change, such as a time of divine wordly punishment. Scholars have generally understood the word saa’a in two broad terms: one is ساعة الکبری (saa’at-ul-kubra) which literally means the greater time, as referring to the Day of Judgement, and ساعة الصغری (saa’at-us-sughra) which literally means the lesser time, and refers to the death of a generation or the death of an individual. Evidently, the underlying meaning is a momentous calamity or change.
      This meaning is confirmed by the Qur’an and hadith, which declare that the time of the saa’a was brought close during the time of the Prophet Muhammad(sa):
      اِقۡتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَۃُ وَ انۡشَقَّ الۡقَمَرُ
      [54:2] The Hour has drawn nigh, and the moon is rent asunder.
      بُعِثْتُ أَنَا وَالسَّاعَةَ كَهَاتَيْنِ (صحیح البخاری،کتاب الرقاق، باب قَوْلِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم: «بُعِثْتُ أَنَا وَالسَّاعَةَ كَهَاتَيْنِ»، حدیث ۶۵۰۴)
      Narrated Anas: Allah’s Messenger(sa) said, “I have been sent and the Hour (is at hand) as these two (fingers). (Sahih Al- Bukhari, The Book of Making the Heart Tender (Riqaq), Chapter: “I have been sent, and the Hour as these two”, Hadith #6504)
      It is a fact that after the appearance of the Holy Prophet(sa), the entire world saw a momentous change, beginning with the Arabs. His opponents who opposed him witnessed many divine punishments, and ultimately were destroyed. A new world order was brought in place, and in this way this massive upheaval was a prelude and indeed evidence for the coming Day of Judgement, which would be similar in terms of it’s wide-ranging implications and upheavals.
      According to this translation, the verse would read, “And Jesus(as) is a sign of the coming worldly punishment”.
      The advent of Jesus(as) signaling a momentous upheaval for the Jews in terms of a coming worldly punishment is also mentioned in another verse of the Holy Qur’an:
      اِنۡ ہُوَ اِلَّا عَبۡدٌ اَنۡعَمۡنَا عَلَیۡہِ وَ جَعَلۡنٰہُ مَثَلًا لِّبَنِیۡۤ اِسۡرَآءِیۡلَ
      [43:60] He was only Our servant on whom We bestowed Our favour, and We made him an example/similitude for the children of Israel.
      After the advent of Jesus(as), the Jews were deprived of prophethood, as it was thereafter transferred to the house of Ismael(as).
      In 70 C.E, after a years long Jewish rebellion, the city of Jerusalem fell to the Romans. The Romans showed no mercy: the city was plundered, and thousands slaughtered. The Second Temple was razed to the ground, and many of those that were taken prisoner were enslaved and sent to toil in the mines of Egypt, while others were dispersed to arenas throughout the Empire to be butchered for the amusement of the public. The Temple’s sacred relics were taken to Rome where they were displayed in celebration of the victory. After that day, the Jews lived in exile for over a thousand years and up until today have not been able to reconstruct the temple mount.
      This momentous upheaval and worldly punishment definitely served as an example or prelude for the Jews to the coming upheaval on the Day of Judgement.
