Pentagon OKs religious beards, attire.

Aljazeera- USA:

The U.S. military approved a new policy that loosens regulations on religious symbols worn by service members, the Pentagon announced Wednesday — a victory for some Sikhs, who have pushed for the move after being barred from serving for insisting on wearing turbans and beards in accordance with their faith.

SikhsPentagon spokesman Nathan Christensen said the new policy, which also allows service members to request prayer time or engage in other religious activities, should not interfere with a soldier’s ability to perform, and “should balance the need of the service member against the need to accomplish the military mission.”

The looser regulations will also affect Jews, Muslims and Wiccans, who were not allowed to serve if they insisted on wearing tattoos, beards, or other religious symbols.

  1. You are right.Wars in this age are political but unfortunately Islamic Mullahs want to fight on the name of religion.

  2. This is great! I have submitted petitions in the past, and as a result of this, will re-submit it for the wear of the beard in uniform, as prescribed by the sunnah of the Holy Prophet (saw). The Army’s refusal in the past for us Muslims stands in stark contrast to a few examples of allowance to others, which to me is a clear example of discrimination. Hopefully this new policy will start to change the tide of unnecessary restrictions imposed by the military on religious practices of personnel, especially since many of these practices do not interfere with the accomplishment of the mission or any impelling government interest, or have any basis for denial.
