Increasing debate has sprouted up in Indonesia that questions the existence of political dynasties. Some argue and press for a ban on political dynasties.
Debates and views supporting the ban on political dynasties argue that political connections and business interests give opportunity for corruption, collision and nepotism (oftern referred as KKN) within political family dynasties.
Marwan Ja’far, head of the House faction of the National Awakening Party (PKB) said that political meritocracy is slowed down by the presence of political dynasties as they violate the rights of people whose families do not have any political affiliations. On the other hand, Nurul Arifin, deputy secretary general of the Golkar party, said that political dynasties are an unavoidable fact of Indonesian politics.
