Baghdad, Zamboanga, Nairobi, and Peshawar: Where Ever Humanity Bleeds Mohammad’s (SAW) Islam is Wounded

Written for The Muslim Times by Abdul Alim

Muslims belonging to Moro National Liberation Front staged a bloody attack last week in the southern city of Zamboanga in the Philippines that has left over hundred dead and more than two hundred thousand innocent people affected and displaced. The struggle continued today between the Philippines Army and the rebels with more people dying. While this was going on, an attack by Al-Shabab from Somalia on a shopping mall in Nairobi led to the deaths of over 50 innocent people and the Kenyan army has yet to take control of the situation. At 11:47 am this morning two Taliban extremists suicide bombers blew themselves up leading to the death of over 60 innocent Christians and hundreds injured.  A pair of bombings during a funeral procession in Baghdad’s Sadr City neighbourhood killed at least 72 people, while insurgents launching a suicide attack on a police station in Beiji killed seven and wounded 21 others.

All this happened on this weekend and was instigated by those who profess to be Muslims. Is this a coincidence? No it’s not. The seeds sown by Pakistan’s Moududi, Egypt’s Ayub Qutub and Saudi’s Abdul Wahab in early to mid-20th century are finally bearing fruit. It is a natural culmination of an unholy alliance between Muslim politicians, politically driven clergy, an unprincipled and spineless western educated elite living in these countries and an indifferent and large so called “moderate” but unorganized majority. Mohammad’s (Peace be upon him) Islam is being wounded and murdered along with innocent humanity while these groups watch and carry on with their plans. Overwhelming national interest and greed driven business interests prevent the powerful western nations from stepping in, speaking up and acting decisively.

If you thought this is bad, wait for worse. Dispassionate analysis of the global situation and national political inertia in the countries where these events have occurred, shows that this is likely to continue and we will see even worse than what we have seen so far. If Muslim rulers had acted in the early to middle twentieth century, it would perhaps been timely. If Pakistan had gone ahead and hanged Moududi when the country’s courts handed him a death sentence, it could have been stopped. Experience from Bangladesh recently and Turkey earlier shows that decisive and swift state backed action can certainly slow the process and to certain extent reverse it, though it is still open to question if it does completely stop it.

Should we give up? What can really stop this mayhem? What would be Mohammad’s (pbuh) solution?

In late 1800’s Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, a Muslim divine, who claimed to be the Promised Reformer of this age, from India issued a path breaking decree following his Holy Master Mohammad (Peace be Upon him). He stated on the authority of God that all militancy (offensive Jihad – called Qital in Arabic) was to be banned forthwith. No killing is allowed in the name of God or Islam. He spoke and wrote in favour of a secular Islam and submission to authorities for the sake of peace. This authoritative Fatwa coming from a humble servant of the Holy Founder of Islam is the only solution that can save the Muslim world and humanity. Alas, if only Muslims would pay heed. If not, the steep crevice of destruction awaits them with open arms.

  1. Can someone please list the mission of the Divine Messenger? What what he sent to accomplish, and what did he claim his mission was? Abrogating armed Jihad? Which, in any case is only to be practiced when Muslims are aggressed against!

    – Did he write a Divinely Inspired Tafseer of the The Quran?
    – Did he announce the solution and end to the major Sunni/Shia split in Islam? How about a solution to end all kinds of sectarianism?
    – Did he roll up the different schools of fiqh/sects into one?
    – Did he propose new solutions of some of the challenges of the 21st century (like surrogate mothers, interest and mortgage, organ donations, contraception, women working alongside men, Democracy, pluralism, narcotics and drug use, evolution, observing Ramadan in the two poles and space, etc etc)?
    – child marriages
    – How to respond to aggression and invasions by different countries
    – Problem and solution to the plight of the Palestinians and those in similar situations
    – Terrorism and murder in the name of God
    – Economic exploitation by certain countries
    – Future Messengers and their missions
    – Definitive definition of Jinns
    – Reformation of the Ummah which has been in the ditch for the past many hundred years in all fields of life like ethics, morality, economics, rule of law, healthy politics, terrorism, obscurantism, poor governance, lack of affordable justice, illiteracy, superstition, lacking behind in the fields of research, science, medicine and technology, treating minorities like trash and hoping them to be influenced by Islam, lack of affordable healthcare, social welfare for those who are down and out, widow pensions, affordable or free universal education, clean water and streets, etc.

    Thanks.

  2. From a totally different point of view: All these attacks are just ‘plain murder’. (of course totally deplorable). When reading crime stories we learn that murderers usually have a pattern. All the places you mention have a pattern, Peshawar, Nairobi. What does not fit the same pattern is ‘9/11’. ‘9/11’ is much more sophisticated. How can the same murderers and idiots who are launching Peshawar and Nairobi manage ‘9/11’ ? Just a thought.

  3. The original post is correct. It was Maudoodi sahib and some fellows in Egypt who had preached armed version of Jihad. Maudoodi seemed to be following the Egyptian Maulvis. i.e. Egyptian model of Islam.

He (maudoodi) wrote small booklets in Urdu about Islam, Salaat, zakaat, Hajj and Jihaad. By those books he proved that the Muslim daily prayer (5 times) and Zakaat etc. were all meant to prepare Muslims for active Jihaad.

Maudoodi even accused the prophet Muhammad s.a.w.s. that the prophets success in life was all due to the use of sword. Astaghfirullah.

In Indo Pak sub-continent, Maudoodi did much damage to the cause of Islam by his misguided writings. He did not know the basic meaning of Momin and Kafir and Murtadd. He did not know whether Isa a.s. was alive now or he had peacefully passed away.

The present day turmoil is all due to Maudoodi sahib and some other Muslim clergy. Allah gave freedom to Muslims in the subcontinent. Maudoodi was not thankful and he did not take part in the making of a state for Muslims in Pakistan. After 1947, Madoodi came to Pakistan to start a jihaad against the government. He was a politically motivated person and not any spiritually guided person period
