“Salafism is a particularly rapidly growing and extremely worrying group within the extremist Islamist movement,” Hans-Georg Maassen, head of domestic
intelligence, told a news conference as he presented his agency’s 2012 annual report on Tuesday.
Radical Islamists in Germany numbered 42,550 in 2012, according to surveillance services, and the number of Salafists, who espouse an austere form of Sunni Islam, within the movement grew to 4,500 from 3,800 in a year, he said.
Islam has the potential to motivate its followers to offer any sacrifice for the good cause. Here million dollar question then what is that good cause? See different explanations and
interpretations offered by different Muslim Scholars. Each group led by these scholars has followers. In case the leading scholar is interpreting the verses of Quran and Hadith to fit his own designs and aims take it granted his followers will consider that explanation and interpretation correct and will follow it blindly. Same is true for Salafis.The group interprets Jihad differently as such involved in extremism. I have read many such explanations and interpretations. Except for Ahmadiyya Muslim Community each other has problem with explanation and interpretation of Jihad concept. A prominent international Muslim Scholar Tahirul Qadri of Minhajul Quran has moderate ideas but when it comes to blasphemy he also turns to be an extremist. Javed Ahamd Ghamdi is another the only prominent Muslim figure which supports dialogue rather than extremism. Best way for Germany would be to promote those Islamic groups who preach love and peace like Ahmadiyya. UK is much ahead of it. These days UK PM and parliament has also recognized the positive contribution of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and even PM UK said he is proud of the community contributions. Such an attitude is required here in Germany also. By recognizing the contributions of those who spread peaceful and moderate Islamic vision, even the attention of extremsit Muslim outfits can also be diverted to this positive aspect of Islam.
